Align to Path 1.7 for After Effects MacOS

Attach and align layers to single or multiple motion paths. Pretty cool actually!

Align to Path allows you to attach and align layers to single or multiple motion paths. Like Magic!

 

How to use:

  1. Select the layer(s) you want to attach to a motion path
  2. Add to your selection any masks you want to use as a motion path (IMPORANT – Select the Mask NAME, not the Mask PATH)
  3. Run the script.

Interface Options:

  • Keep Position Offset
    Keep the layer at it’s current position
  • Auto-Orient to Path
    Should the layer by automatically oriented while following the path
    (Note: Auto-Orient only works after an initial keyframe is created on the Motion Path Complete slider)
  • Updating Paths
    Every path you add will show up in this list

    To update them do the following:

    1. Edit the original Mask Path (The path can not be animated)
    2. Select the Mask(s) you want to update in the GUI
    3. Click Update

    All your connected layers should jump to their new positions
    Any existing keyframes will stay in place

    Use the “Clear” button to empty the list
    (This is necessary if you undo the adding of a motion path)

Control:

  • Motion Path Completion
    Animate through all of your paths sequentially
    When this is activated, the sliders for individual paths have no effect
  • Complete Sequentially
    How far along on the motion path(s) the layer is. Range 0→100
  • One slider per motion path
    You can animate what % you want each motion path to contribute
    If all sliders are set to 0, then you can set a keyframe like normal on your layer

Things to keep in mind:

  • The sliders are only valid in the range of 0 100. If the slider is moved outside this range, it will get calculated as 0 or 100
    (All sliders are normalized to 100% — The values are added together, and divided by the # of sliders.)
  • The script makes a null per each of your motion paths. However, they are put as the last layers in your comp, locked, hidden, and set to shy mode
  • If the Mask Layer is rotated or scaled, motion paths will not reflect this (the same as when copying a mask in the interface)
  • Even with Orient Along Path selected, you can still animate the rotation of the layer like normal
  • When using Complete Sequentially, the masks will complete in alphabetical order

Scapple 1.3.4

Scapple is the software equivalent of how I work out my rough ideas on paper. (If I didn’t hate the word “brainstorming” so much, I’d probably call it brainstorming software.) When I’m in the early stages of any project, whether that’s a writing project or a software project, I tend to throw a bunch of ideas down on a big piece of paper, spacing out as-yet unrelated ideas, clustering related notes, and drawing connections between them, trying to work out how everything fits together.

In short, then, Scapple is a tool for getting early ideas down as quickly as possible and making connections between them. The main advantage of doing this in Scapple instead of on paper is that you don’t run out of paper (the Scapple canvas expands to fit as many notes as you want to create), you can move notes around to make room for new ideas and connections, it’s easy to delete and edit notes, and it’s easy to export your notes into other applications when you know what you want to do with them.

I’m well aware that there’s already a plethora of mind-mapping software out there. Where Scapple is slightly different from most is that it doesn’t force you to make any connections, and it doesn’t expect you to start out with one central idea and branch everything else off that. Instead, you are free to write anywhere on the virtual paper and individual notes can be a short or as long as you like. Creating and removing connections is as easy as dragging one note onto another. Most importantly, because its purpose is to allow you to get ideas down and make connections between them quickly, Scapple is dead simple to use. Although I’m currently writing a full manual for it, the QuickStart Guide a little further down should contain everything you need to dig in and get using Scapple.

  • You can now label connections between notes. To do so, select two notes and choose “Connection Label…” from the “Notes” or contextual menu. Double-click on an existing label to edit it.

Updated UI:

  • The footer bar and other UI elements have been refreshed for a more modern appearance.

Note Styles:

  • You can now assign note styles via the inspector using the new “Note Styles” palette.
  • Create new note styles by dragging notes into the inspector.
  • Drag a style out of the inspector to create a new note of that style.
  • You can now assign the keyboard shortcuts Cmd-Opt-1 to Cmd-Opt-9 to note styles.

iCloud:

  • A “Scapple” folder now appears in iCloud Drive.

Other:

  • Holding down Shift and Command in Movement Mode now speeds up moving notes even more than just holding down Shift.
  • New options added to align notes horizontally or vertically in background notes.

Bug Fixes:

  • Tiled background images should now appear the same when exporting and printing as in the UI.
  • Quick Look previews now appear correctly on High Sierra.
  • Numerous bug fixes.

We have been working hard on getting our MailSuite ready for Mac OS 10.14 Mojave. With MailSuite we will be migrating our 4 core products( MailTags, Mail Act-On, Mail Perspectives, and SigPro ) to a single plugin: SmallCubed MailSuite.

Provide full compatibility with different email servers. Past versions of MailTags could not sync all tag data for Gmail messages and some other servers. Now complete tag data will synchronise for all messages regardless of the type of mail server.

Dramatically increase the speed that tags are saved and synced between computers. Past versions of MailTags required each message to rewrite its full contents to the IMAP server when saving tags. For larger messages, this needed significant time and bandwidth. Now, only the tag information is synced.

Improve reliability. Because tag data was stored inside each message, MailTags had to do a lot of work behind the scenes to ensure that tags remain intact between different actions (such as rules application, moving messages, rebuilding accounts) Now tag data are separate records which are associated with each message, it is much simpler and more reliable to store and sync data and the original messages are not altered.

Build future products. Changing the tagging mechanism is essential for our future directions including being able to work with tag data on other platforms such as iOS. We plan to communicate more about this soon.

There are a few implications of this change in tag format:
To sync tag data, we need to employ a separate server managed by SmallCubed. Privacy and security are critical to us, and we strongly feel that no service should have access to email accounts or content. We have designed our service with this in mind, and no content from original emails is stored on our servers. For each message we store two pieces of information: a unique key for the message generated from a “one-way hash” of specific message header information, and the encrypted tag data for the message. For more information check our security documentation.

The new tag format is NOT compatible with older versions of MailTags. If you work with tag data in SmallCubed MailSuite, computers with MailTags versions 2-5 will not work with this new format. We are planning to make SmallCubed MailSuite compatible with OS versions going back to 10.12 to accommodate mixed OS environments. We will steer you through importing tag data from the older format.

Messages within the same account cannot have distinct tags. Each instance of a specific message in an email account shares the same identifier, and so share the same tag data. This may affect those who tag the same message differently for different mailboxes on the same account.

Sharing tag data between users who share an IMAP account is forthcoming. If data sharing is essential to your workflow, we recommend that you do not upgrade to macOS 10.14 Mojave at this time. We expect tag sharing to be ready before the end of the year

The update adds new sculpting features including support for topological symmetry and vector displacement map stamping, and iterates on recent updates to the UV Editor, Graph Editor and Time Editor.

This release focuses on letting you work faster than ever before through new workflows and numerous performance enhancements.

A myriad of improvements to Viewport 2.0 enhance its performance when doing everything from loading scenes to selecting objects, to handling dense meshes.

Additionally, cached playback speeds up your ability to preview animation changes by intelligently redrawing only what’s changed rather than updating the entire scene. This greatly improves viewport playback performance, removing the need to constantly playblast your scenes.

This release also gives you the most powerful tools yet for tracking exactly how Maya is using your computer’s resources. New features in the Evaluation Toolkit and Profiler allow you to pinpoint exactly where there may be inefficiencies or problems that are slowing down your scene.

Improvements to Render Setup enable you to better organize your render layers by coloring and isolating them in the Render Setup editor, or by controlling whether lights are included in each layer by default. In addition, more options are available for exporting and importing scene Render Settings and AOVs.

You can also now render Arnold right in the viewport, including all its RenderView options such as Debug Shading, AOVs, and region rendering.

New Graph Editor filters have been added to help you refine animation curves quicker and easier than before.

Plenty of examples and presets have been added to the Content Browser covering a variety of areas, from motion capture, to motion graphics, to characters. Use them as-is, or as a jumping-off point for your own work.

Display Maestro gives you full control over attached displays, allowing the use of all available resolutions and bit depths. macOS strips out the useful ability to set specific resolutions and presents a more user-friendly approach. Access exactly the resolution you need with Display Maestro’s traditional-macOS-like menu.

Details Unveiled
Pro users can also view advanced resolution and device information ranging from gamma configuration, RGB color points, scaling, samples per pixel, screen dimensions, device vendor IDs, refresh rate, manufacture dates, dots per inch, Retina (HiDPI) status, and more.

Also view feature information such as if the following are enabled are supported: pan enabled, simulscan enabled, is stretched, television mode, Desktop GUI support, interlace mode, mirroring supported, built-in, high-resolution capable, accelerator backed, and more.

Full Resolution List
Access the full list of resolutions and bit-depths supported by the graphics card and attached display. Note that some graphics cards may limit the display’s options.

Legacy App Support
Older games and apps sometimes require the use of precise resolutions, and can no longer set these automatically due to changes in Mac OS. Display Maestro lets you pick exactly the configuration you need.

Safety First
Display Maestro implements functionality that will detect if an unsafe resolution was chosen and will automatically revert to the last known safe resolution if confirmation is not given.
