DropDMG is the easiest way to create macOS disk images, as well as cross-platform archives. Just drag and drop a folder or file and you’re done. Or, you can drag an existing disk image or archive onto DropDMG to convert it to any of the other supported formats or to burn it to CD or DVD.

Disk images pack entire folders or disks into a single compressed file, either for transport across the Internet or simply for backup. They are the only archive format whose contents you can directly access in the Finder, without the potentially slow and disk-consuming step of expanding the files into a folder.

DropDMG supports advanced options such as encrypted and segmented disk images, Retina-optimized background pictures and custom volume icons, and rich-text license agreements in multiple languages. There are many time-saving features such as configurations to keep track of your favorite combinations of settings. It can also be automated via AppleScript, the command-line, and Automator.

Features

Create and convert disk images and archives with a simple drag and drop. There are also many other convenient ways to invoke DropDMG.
DropDMG supports all the major formats, including compressed .dmg files, .sparsebundle files, .zip and .tar.gz archives, and hybrid disk images.
Create .dmg disk images that are signed for Gatekeeper and macOS 10.12.

Backups, Archival, and Cloning:

Save disk space and network transfer time by compressing your files. Choose faster or more efficient compression.
Split large files or folders into multiple segments to burn them to optical discs or easily transfer them over a network.
Verify the integrity of your backups and archives to ensure that the media is still intact and that you’ll be able to restore them if needed.
Create a device image that records the exact contents of a data CD or DVD. You can then burn bootable backup copies of the disc, or doubleclick the disk image to access its contents as though the disc were still in your optical drive.
In one step, create a device image clone of an entire hard drive, optimized for restoring using Apple Software Restore or Disk Utility.

Encryption:

Encrypt files that you want to keep private. DropDMG’s encrypted, writable disk images are faster and safer than Apple’s FileVault, but just as secure and searchable via Spotlight.
Create encrypted, compressed disk images to securely transfer files via email, Dropbox, or FTP or to store backups safely offsite.
Choose from 128bit and 256bit AES encryption, approved by the U.S. National Security Agency.
Optionally store your passphrases in the macOS keychain, so that you can quickly create and access encrypted disk images, without the hassle of doubletyping or the risk of typos.
Mount disk images at specific locations in the filesystem, so that your applications can keep their support files encrypted.
Mount encrypted, segmented disk images without having to enter the passphrase separately for each segment.

Advanced:

Runs multiple operations simultaneously, so you that you can keep working while DropDMG processes in the background.
Takes advantage of multiple processor cores for faster compression and encryption.
Keeps a detailed log of all the successful operations as well as any errors, including statistics such as the throughput and how much space was saved using compression. New log entries are also reported via Growl.
Get detailed information about your disk images: their formats, partitions, compression ratios, checksums, etc.
Easily queue up bulk operations for creating, converting, mounting, verifying, getting info, burning, joining, etc. If multiple encrypted disk images share a passphrase, you only need to enter it once.
Process the names of the output files to add the current date or make the filename serverfriendly.

Personalize the looks of the macOS Dock

cDock is a simple, clean and straightforward macOS application that enables you to install a 2D Dock on your Mac running 10.9 or later. On top of that, cDock helps you personalize the appearance of your Dock with several dock styles included in the app.

With the help of cDock you can make the Dock transparent or install one of the pre-defined dock styles with just a couple of mouse clicks. Within the built-in collection of themes, you’ll find a dark and grey dock, as well as pink or full-screen ones.

Create your own Dock themes and apply them with ease

The best thing about cDock is that it allows you to rapidly and effortlessly create your own custom themes by manually changing the dock settings file according to your needs.

The settings info text file provides the necessary information about the values that you can modify in order to change the look of the Dock and automatically opens when you select the “Install Customizable Dock” option and hit the “Okay” button.

From cDock’s main window, you also have the option to restart the Dock or the Finder and, as mentioned above, to install the colored Finder sidebar. On top of that, you can easily restore the Finder and the Dock to their original looks if necessary.

Go back to the original appearance and quickly restart the Dock

cDock performed well throughout our tests and allowed us to try several different looks until we where happy with the appearance of both our Mac’s Dock and Finder sidebar.

On the whole, cDock is one of those tools that should be provided by Apple but, fortunately, its developer has made it available to fill in the shoes of such a much needed default macOS utility.

What’s New in Carbon Copy Cloner 5.1.14 (5863)

Authentication errors that occur when failing to mount the destination Data volume are now handled correctly (i.e. you’ll get a “Reset Password” prompt instead of a generic error).
CCC no longer avoids rebuilding the dynamic linker shared cache on Macs with less than 4GB of RAM. We found that this resolved system performance issues in the past, but now it only exacerbates system performance issues on these anemic systems when running macOS Catalina.
CCC will now disallow the conversion of an HFS formatted Drobo volume to APFS because Drobo does not currently support APFS. This does not prevent you from reformatting a Drobo volume yourself and selecting it as a destination for a Catalina bootable backup, but CCC is no longer going to perform the task that places the Drobo volume in an unsupported configuration. If you want to use your Drobo device as a bootable backup, you should share that feedback with Drobo.
Added a “Reveal Data Volume” button to the source and destination selector when the applicable volume is a mounted System volume.
Catalina: CCC’s Cloning Coach now warns that a FireWire-attached destination is not bootable on Catalina (Apple no longer supports this configuration).
Catalina: Errors encountered during the System volume backup will no longer cause the Data volume backup to fail, and the errors are now presented with more helpful advice.
High Sierra: Fixed an issue that resulted in non-bootable clones when specifying a volume other than the current startup disk as the source.
The task selection in CCC’s sidebar is retained more reliably.
Fixed a logic issue that caused CCC’s restart or shutdown requests to fail when no user is logged in.
Catalina: Addressed a issue where an “On reconnect” task would fail to run when the destination volume was reconnected in cases where the source is the startup disk and the System volume had been replaced entirely during a system software update.
CCC now works around volume unmount interference caused by CleanMyDrive. That product can still cause trouble for Disk Utility, however, so consider disabling that software if you’re having trouble with an HFS-to-APFS conversion, for example.
Addressed an issue in which the source and destination selections might not be cleared out in Simple Mode.
Fixed an issue in which CCC would report that it was unable to collect the details about the underlying volume when selecting a folder on a volume within a volume group, and when that underlying volume’s name had a non-ASCII character (e.g. “CCC Backup – Données”).
