Status bar menu applications are extremely useful because you have access to their capabilities at all times, without having to disrupt your work, or deal with complicated tools.

Bartender is a small Mac app that takes things even further, by allowing you to use a single menu to contain them all.

Forthright software solution for regaining your status bar space

Unfortunately, in some cases, if you are using a large number of menu apps, your status bar can become cluttered, which means that you will spend more time looking for specific tools.

Moreover, Via the Bartender Preferences window, you can choose to hide certain icons altogether, or to send them to the Bartender menu.

This way, you will gain more space on your status bar, and you can decide to keep only the most frequently used applications. In addition, you can choose to hide the Bartender menu and activate it via a hotkey.

Effortlessly manage your status bar menu icons

To get started, you must open the Bartender Preferences window and navigate to the Menu Items panel. Here you will see a list of all the menu items currently active, but also the system items: via the settings panel, you must decide what to do with the menu bar item.

Furthermore, if the Bartender application detects a modification in any of the contained items, it will display a notification. You have the option to decide how long should the message be displayed.

User friendly solution for organizing your status bar menu items

Bartender offers you the possibility to limit the number of items displayed in your status bar to the ones that you are using frequently. At the same time, you have the option to organize the hidden items in an equally easy to access menu that can be either kept on the status bar as a single icon, or activated with an user defined hotkey.

NEW FEATURES / IMPROVEMENTS:

Completely rewritten for modern macOS:

Bartender 3 has been completely rewritten from the ground up in Swift using best practices to work with modern macOS, it also paves the way for many new features we have planned.
The biggest change is we no longer require a helper to be installed in menu item apps to control them. This means we no longer do anything that SIP (System Integrity Protection) is interested in and can work with any menu bar app including those with increased security (Such as Apple System items).
What this does now mean though is that Bartender is no longer able to display the Bartender Bar beneath the menu bar but instead displayed it in the main menu bar removing normally shown items to display the Bartender Bar items.

macOS High Sierra Compatibility:

Full macOS High Sierra compatibility. We did consider calling it High Bartender but thought better of it.

iStat Menus Individual item control:

We  iStat Menus and now Bartender 3 can control iStat menus items individually.

BUG FIXES:

Better compatibility with some app setups:

Adding in compatibility for more unusual app setups.

RTL Support:

Bartender 3 would not work on a RTL setup mac, as all logic assumed menu items on the right of the screen, this is a initial attempt at adding RTL support.

Improved reliability on some systems:

For some users Bartender has been underperforming/not working correctly. With a lot of help from a user (thank you) to debug/log this, it should now work correctly and performance should be better. We are still working on improving this.

UI Fixes and improvements:

Small things, such as typo fixes and better explanations. Added remove button for menu item settings.

Fix for Airplay Display still moving:

Airplay Display could still change position if set to “Always show in menu bar” this has been fixed.

Fix for individual item control of Setapp version of iStat Menus:

The Setapp version of iStat menus could not be individually controlled, this has been fixed.

Fix for crash in previous test build:

Version 3.0.36 had a crashing bug, this has been fixed.

Google Backup and Sync and other apps without a name in localised languages:

Apps that do not have a process name in a localisation would not be controlled by Bartender, this has been fixed.

Bartender deactivating Screen Save:

It was possible for Bartender to deactivate the screen saver if manually activated. But only in the initial 40 seconds. This has been fixed.

Show for updates activating on screen change:

It was possible for Bartender to show show for update items when activating another screen, this has been improved, but is still possible in some specific situations, this will be fixed in a coming update.

If you’re anything like us when bad weather hits you find yourself snuggled up with a hot cup of tea, a nice copy of 1Password, and our Security Audit feature to make sure you’re as safe online as you can be.

Today’s update brings with it a handful of fixes to kick off 2018. Thank you as always for all your bug reports and improvement suggestions.

## Fixed
• Fixed an issue that would prevent you from viewing an attachment more than once. OPM-5624
• Quick Look windows now close when 1Password is locked. OPM-1827
• When fetching rich icons 1Password will not request icons for items with invalid URLs.
