ON1 Photo RAW is a standalone macOS application designed to help you enhance your photos collection by quickly applying various effects, image layers, or masks, by employing the included retouching tools, or by resizing the original file.

Complex photo editing suite featuring a stylish yet organized user interface
Right off the bat, in the main window, you can easily browse your images collection and add new source image folders. The built-in image browser allows you to preview your photos and enables you to send them to other workspaces.

Even if ON1 Photo RAW does not take up too many resources, the switch between various workspaces, and applying different effects, comes with a slight delay.

Moreover, if you don’t interact with ON1 Photo RAW in fullscreen mode, the buttons associated with the various working spaces (develop, layers, resize, and so on), do not seem to work properly.

Enhance your photos quality and apply effects and masks to improve the final result
The capabilities are organized into multiple workspaces that can be accessed via different toolbars. This way, the currently selected image can be sent to any layer, enhanced, masked and/or resized very easily.

Finding your way around the application is quite easy since the workspace names are quite self-explanatory. Noteworthy is that ON1 Photo RAW can automate portrait retouching tasks, such as removing blemishes or cleaning up teeth.

We’re continually training our JPEG to RAW conversion model with more data, which makes it better the more time passes. You’ll get the latest and greatest when the model improves.

Dynamic range

Your image loses significant dynamic range when it’s converted to JPEG. JPEG to RAW AI helps you recover a portion of this lost dynamic range by bringing back lost shadow and highlight details. While you won’t be able to completely missing details, it can work with even very small amounts of information. This allows you to be more aggressive with editing your photo’s exposure or contrast. If you ever think that you’ve blown out a sky and you don’t have the original RAW file, try running it through JPEG to RAW AI first.

Color space

Color space represets the range of color that is supported in your image. JPEG images are usually in the sRGB color space, which works great for web but less for printing and editing. When editing a photo in sRGB, adjusting saturation or vibrance will often reveal ugly color blotchiness.

You can prevent this from happening by running it through JPEG to RAW AI. JPEG to RAW’s machine learning models expand the sRGB colorspace to ProPhoto RGB, which is even better than a regular RAW file! This works so well because there is usually enough information in at least one color channel for our models to reconstruct missing detail with a high level of preciseness. The larger resulting color space allows you to better edit saturation and vibrance without any visible artifacting.

Color depth

Color depth (also called bit depth) is how much color information the image can store. When editing an image with low bit depth, you will see color banding in smooth gradients like skies.An 8-bit JPEG only has 256 values per channel. Running that JPEG through JPEG to RAW AI will expand it to 65,532 values per channel. This will prevent posterization and banding when you adjust the contrast in your images.

Artifacts

You’ll see visible compression artifacts in your image when editing highly compressed images. JPEG to RAW AI is exceptional at removing these artifacts while preserving natural image features: Artifacts won’t be easily visible in high-quality JPEGs, but they can completely ruin an image if they are. They’ll also get accentuated by post-processing, especially sharpening. Run your images through JPEG to RAW AI to ensure artifacts don’t impact your workflow.

Rendering is very fast, so you are no longer made to wait while browsing raw files.

You can customize the appearance of previews and thumbnails (icons) in Finder with embedded captions that include timestamp, frame number, or file name.

Raw Right Away also provides several utilities accessible directly from Finder’s right-click Services menu:

Overview

Browse faster! In Finder, select a Nikon Raw (.NEF), Canon Raw 2 (.CR2), Sony Raw (.ARW) or JPEG file and press spacebar to display the image- the system will invoke Raw Right Away to generate an enhanced preview that includes photo metadata and a graphical summary of exposure settings. Best of all: it’s very fast, so you are no longer made to wait while browsing raw files.

Metadata includes shutter count for many Nikon and Sony cameras. Shutter count is not available for Canon.

You can customize the appearance of previews and thumbnails (icons) in Finder with embedded captions that include timestamp, frame number, or file name.

Raw Right Away also provides several utilities accessible directly from Finder’s right-click Services menu:

• Apply Camera Timestamp: restores file timestamp to the time of image capture.
• Apply World Timestamp: same as Apply Camera Timestamp, but adjusts for time zone.
• Copy Metadata: copies metadata to pasteboard so it can be pasted into an e-mail message, text document, etc.
• Export Metadata to Tags: creates Mac OS file tags from the image’s embedded metadata. Makes it easier to search metadata from the Finder search box.
• Clear Exported Tags: clears Raw Right Away tags. Leaves other tags alone.
