SOME USELESS NOTES ON PROTECTiON AND MORE…
  • This is a 201415 project that we kept internal while
  • waiting to understand what would’ve been CamelAudio’s
  • fate after Apple bought it, and trying to collect every
  • available library for a big Mac+Win complete release.
  • Many moons have passed since, and we see all libs are
  • now available from p2p. Nice effort over there!
  • The biggest obstacle to public full version release has
  • always been the insane amount of watermarking involved.
  • The code was hidden inside user/license data, and it
  • was hard to remove user details, as watermark also
  • contained license data which couldn’t just be zeroed out.
  • Better, it can now be replaced in the very latest installer
  • CA released before closing doors, now is much easier as
  • they basically removed the actual protection & just left WM
  • to make watermarking/installer packing process faster
  • as they expected all their customers DDOSing the site trying
  • to download their products when they announced support end.
  • At the time we did this, user data wasn’t in plain text
  • like now but encoded, and must’ve been valid. Or checks k’d.
  • For 32/64bit VST i.e. there are 14 license/WM sections,
  • each one containing DSA8192 signatures.
  • That amounts to 42.000+ bytes of user info hidden in binary.
  • A lot of work was done, we had to compare three copies
  • to be sure watermarks were removed completely and
  • replaced with our user+license data.
  • We saw other group did 5 “revisions”(we call’em nukes here)
  • to get it right(?) on Win, working on latest/easier version.
  • We wonder how many nukes would’ve seen the light
  • if they worked on the actual protection like we did! ?

KICK

The Kick module is built for versatility, ease-of-use, and expressive fun, and relies on a powerful combination of two sound layers: sampled or synth-based. Each layer has drive and a multimode filter (ideal for blending the low end of an 808-style kick with the transient crack of an acoustic sample, for example). The combined kick is further shaped using effects, envelopes, and sequenced modulation, and can be tuned automatically to a master tune setting, avoiding bass frequency clashes.

BASS

The Bass module offers total expressive freedom with a choice of five synth engines, allowing anything from epic super saws to underground sine subs. An innovative Ducker module lets you quickly apply creative sidechain-style effects or surgical mix cuts to the level, EQ, FX sends, and insert effects parameters. Like the Kick module, Bass features a number of modulators, and all parameters can be controlled by the step sequencer.

SEQUENCER

Independent step-sequencers for Kick and Bass each offer extensive sequencing and modulation controls – far more than traditional step-sequencers. Every step allows a number of controls, such as note-on, velocity, pitch, length (for bass), and gate. But the real fun starts with the step-modulation controls. Parameter Focus lets you draw in sequence modulation for any Kick or Bass parameter (filter sweeps, for example). Step Locks then allow any number of fixed parameter values for a given sequencer step: Simply click the Lock button for that step then draw in as many settings as you like – just for that step.

EFFECTS

TRK-01 offers a range of tailored processing types and sound-shaping techniques, starting with a user-selectable insert effect for both Kick and Bass modules.

Delay and Reverb sends provide key controls in a simple interface, with additional features for huge creative potential.

Finally, two master inserts – a harmonic bass enhancer, followed by a saturation-capable compressor/limiter module – allow creative enhancement and performance-ready weight.

NKS / KOMPLETE KONTROL

TRK-01 integrates seamlessly with KOMPLETE KONTROL and MASCHINE for even more expressive sound-design and enhanced playability. The layout of key TRK-01 controls mirrors the hardware layout, with intelligent pre-mapping of additional controls. Light Guide keyboard mapping enables intuitive hardware-control of powerful performance features such as hot-swapping of sequencer patterns and complete module set-ups for both Kick and Bass. The Evolution of Frequency Separation for Retouching

If you’re familiar with the process of utilizing frequency separation in your retouching workflow, then you’re probably aware – and frustrated by – the lack of total control and somewhat average results you get while using it. While the method remains a skin retouching staple, the core approach to setting it up in Photoshop has been more or less the same for a while now, and accepted as such.

The basic premise of frequency separation is creating the ability in Photoshop to manipulate the base colors and textures separately, thus giving you the control to perfect skin tone without obliterating skin texture. On paper, this sounds to good to be true. For many retouchers, the discovery of this method is initially exciting, and then eventually discouraging due to the limitations of the classic frequency separation setup process.

Then add in the workflow slowdowns while processing the filters and other functions involved in the setup, and frequency separation becomes a necessary evil, perhaps, but one that leaves you feeling a little flat about your results.

But what if you could have a bit more control, all in one panel, and achieve better results? Perhaps you have higher demands in your retouching, and are always looking to step it up. Thanks to MAMP you can easily develop complex MySQL database applications on your local PC and upload them afterwards on to your live system. For easy configuration MAMP PRO comes with phpMyAdmin.

PHP

81% (and growing) of all websites are using PHP as its server side programming language. This means PHP is the most commonly used programming language for creating websites.
