TechSmith’s Mac and Windows screen recorder and video editor — now branded Camtasia Editor within the broader Camtasia Suite — built for tutorials, training, and product demos where you need separate tracks for screen, webcam, cursor, and narration.

Camtasia captures your display, camera, microphone, and system audio as independent timeline layers, then lets you trim, zoom, annotate, and style the result without switching to a separate NLE. Cursor metadata is recorded so you can smooth paths, resize, or replace the pointer after the fact; Screentelligence features such as SmartFocus automate zoom-and-pan on Rev-based recordings. Integration with Camtasia Audiate adds text-based editing — delete a word in the transcript to cut the matching audio — plus AI noise removal, translation, avatars, and script assistance on supported plans.

Typical Mac workflow

Most creators record in Camtasia Rev for a quick first pass, refine on the multitrack timeline with callouts, transitions, and dynamic captions, then export to MP4 or share through Screencast and Camtasia Online. Version 2026.1 brought Zoom cloud recording import, VTT caption import/export, vertical Rev layouts, and Edit in Snagit for timeline images. The suite also includes Camtasia Snagit for screenshots and step captures, which can feed directly into editor projects.

Licensing and 2026.2.0

Camtasia Editor is free to download with full editing features; exported videos carry a watermark until you upgrade to Essentials, Create, Pro, or a Business license subscription. Each paid license covers two devices for the same user. On Mac, TechSmith requires macOS 14.0 or later (macOS 26 recommended) with 8 GB RAM minimum and Apple Silicon preferred for performance. Version 2026.2.0 (August 11, 2026) adds Snagit-to-training-video automation, WebM export, curved remix arrows, new Camtasia Assets animations, and an update-channel preference for Standard versus Delayed releases.
