Yoink

A Mac utility that adds a temporary drag-and-drop shelf at the screen edge, so you can stash files, images, and text snippets without holding the mouse button while hunting for the destination window.

Moving items between Finder windows, Spaces, and fullscreen apps is awkward on macOS because drag operations lock your hand to the trackpad or mouse. Yoink appears when you start dragging and offers a shelf where dropped content waits until you are ready. You navigate freely, then drag items out to Mail, Slack, a design app, or another folder. The shelf accepts Finder files, images from websites, text selections, and other draggable app content, making it useful for collecting assets from a browser before dropping them into a project file.

Customization and extras

Yoink is highly configurable: you can show the shelf immediately on drag start, only when the cursor nears the screen edge, or at the cursor position for faster drops. Clipboard history stores recent copies and is reachable from the shelf or widgets, which helps when you need several snippets in sequence. Quick Look previews let you inspect items without leaving the shelf; recent versions added pinning, better sizing for log files, and improved renaming for web-sourced content. Version 3.7 also brought Photos integration on macOS 13+, allowing original RAW files, burst images, and Live Photo videos to be pulled from the Photos app with editing metadata preserved.

Licensing and platform

Yoink is developed by Eternal Storms Software and sold as a one-time purchase with a 28-day trial, available from the developer site, Mac App Store, or Setapp. It requires macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later and is localized into several languages. A separate iOS/iPadOS version exists, but licenses do not cross platforms. Version 3.7.6 (August 3, 2026) focuses on browser compatibility, drag reliability, and minor UI fixes.
