One of the major problems encountered when working with apps that are not sandboxed is the fact that, on removal, they leave behind resources files that take up storage space unnecessarily.

App Uninstaller is a simple yet efficient macOS utility that can detect all the files associated with an installation and helps you eliminate them from your disk with minimal effort.

Scan your Mac for installed apps and remove them correctly

Right off the bat, in the App Uninstaller main window, you get to see the list of apps currently deployed on your Mac. The app encourages you to select one of the utilities either to remove it or simply to see all the associated service files.

For your convenience, App Uninstaller allows you to sort the list of apps ascending or descending and by different criteria: name, size, date, or selected.

At the same time, App Uninstaller assigns a check box to each element, so you can decide if you want to remove all the files or only some of the items. The app also included select/deselect all buttons, and helps you mark for deletion only the service files.

Run cleanup checks in the background and protect essential applications

Via the App Uninstaller Preferences you get to decide if you want the apps list to include the system applications: even though this is possible, take into consideration that removing system files might lead to irreparable damage.

Furthermore, you get to make sure that all deleted apps are scanned for a complete cleanup, even though you don’t remove them through the App Uninstaller interface.

If this function is enabled, the App Uninstaller utility will monitor the Trash folder for deleted apps and automatically looks for related and service files.

On the other hand, App Uninstaller also helps you create a list of protected apps that will be ignored when the utility is scanning and marking items for deletion.

Classic text editing tools and outline tool for easy document navigation

To get you started, Mellel provides a collection of document templates organized by type: default (portrait with white / blue / yellow background, landscape, letter or letter landscape), letter, envelope, resume, form, newsletter, certificate and other. Simply select the document type and start editing.

Mellel includes all the classic text editing tools and its interface is organized in a manner familiar to anyone that has used a text processor before. However, to avoid cluttering its main window, Mellel is providing the Attributes and styles customization options in a separate panel.

If you are dealing with large documents, enabling the Outline panel can prove to be extremely beneficial: here you can view the project’s structure and quickly jump to specific areas.

Advanced tools for writing and wrapping text around images

Mellel enables you to attach footnotes and endnotes, to add reference notes anywhere you like, to include headings and titles or to manage the document bibliography, the used citations and more.

Other useful capabilities include the possibility to create a Table of Contents and to count the elements included in the project in a very organized manner. You are able to specify exactly what should be counted: words, images, citations, tables, footnotes and more.

Of course, Mellel offers you the possibility to include images and graphics into your projects but that does not mean that the document flow is interrupted: you get to wrap text around them and make everything look very natural.

In addition, the Mellel app can also be successfully used to process small documents and the predefined templates will also further simplify your work.

Story:

Story points are drawn on their own line with a default font and default alignment and margin with a background and lines along the sides.

Overview

BetterZip lets you quickly inspect archives without first extracting their contents.

Extract Only Files You Really Need: If you only need a few files or folders from a larger archive, you don’t have to extract the whole thing. Simply drag the files you need from the BetterZip window to any Finder window or the desktop.
Open Archives Without Extracting: Not only can BetterZip open archives without first extracting them but you can also search for a file using the iTunes-like interface. BetterZip can open and extract archives with the most common formats: ZIP, SIT, TAR, XAR, XZ, GZip, BZip2, RAR, 7-Zip, CPIO, ARJ, LZH/LHA, JAR, WAR, CAB, ISO, CHM, RPM, DEB, NSIS, BIN, HQX, DMG, EPUB, and Winmail.dat.
Create Archives: Simply drag files and folders from your hard drives, disks, or network places into your new zip file. You no longer have to copy all the files into a temporary folder first. The supported formats are ZIP, TAR, GZip and BZip2 compressed TAR, XAR, 7-ZIP, and RAR (using the external RAR commandline tool). Large archives can also be split.
Protect Your Data: BetterZip can protect your data with a password and create AES-256 encrypted archives. 7-zip and rar archives can also be protected.
Update Archives: Add new or updated files to existing archives. Remove any file or folder from an archive, or even move files around inside the archive as if it were a normal folder.
Make Archives Compatible: Strip Mac-specific files and resource forks from archives for best compatibility with systems like Windows or Linux.

What’s New in BetterZip 4.1 (1305)

Configure which apps to use to open which file types when viewing and how to treat them in the preview (e.g., as text)
Major rewrite of the password manager:

Passwords are now stored AES-256 encrypted in the preferences file instead of the macOS keychain, keeping your passwords safe, but making it easier to completely copy your BetterZip setup from one Mac to another or using a common set of passwords in a multi-user environment. The transformation will be done automatically.
Additionally, the passwords can now be locked and unlocked with the master password for increased security. Configure when BetterZip should lock your passwords in the preferences window.
The password manager’s “Import” function became “Edit Passwords as Text”, which allows you to edit all passwords as text and copy them to the clipboard for external save keeping, e.g., in a text file that you put in an encrypted zip file, or in a secure note in your favorite password manager (e.g., 1Password).

Improved

The exclude patterns field in the presets configuration and the save panel is now a drop-down combobox that lets you either select one of your already used patterns or enter a new one.
For easier deployment in multi-user environments, user folders in presets are now stored abbreviated with the tilde in the preferences file.
I added an option in the Advanced section of the preferences to not automatically load the toolbar preset in the save panel when using a standard Save command, either from the menu, the toolbar or by pressing ⌘S on the keyboard.
BetterZip now forces the queue window to the front when starting from a service.
Included the latest unrar library (version 5.5.8).
QL generators have a limited amount of memory and will be shut down if they exceed that limit. This could affect the BetterZip QL generator when previewing archives with many files (more than 10,000 or so). To prevent this problem, the item count is now limited to the first 10,000 files and folders and the head section of the preview now shows the full count.
BetterZip no longer displays an annoying warning message when you cancel saving.
I have brought back the option to subscribe to the beta version channel in the auto-updater. Activate it on the „General” tab in the BetterZip preferences.
When opening a damaged rar archive and having the external rar helper installed, you now have the option to open the archive without trying to repair it.

Fixed

Services for presets with ampersands (&) in their name would lead Finder to display an error message.
tar.gz extraction was still not working correctly in some cases when using the queue.
Misnamed compressed tar files (e.g., a tar.gz file missing the .gz in the extension) would crash BetterZip during extraction.
Custom folder Icons were not zipped/restored correctly.
Better handling of cpio/cpgz files with resource forks or metadata.
Removing a favorite from the sidebar didn’t immediately update the sidebar.
QL:Encrypted archives didn’t show the archive icon
Cancelling rar creation crashed BetterZip.
Fixed „shrink heap buffer overflow” in p7zip (CVE-2017-17969).
BetterZip couldn’t hide ._ files in tar files created on macOS 10.13 correctly.
AppleScript archive option destination:”test.zip” led to double extension test.zip.zip

You can view the video’s thumbnail to ensure you are not downloading the wrong clip, although it would be nice if you could disable this function, so as to minimize the app’s screen space usage. Also, the only way to clear the downloaded items list is to restart the application.

We get the impression that Ummy Video Downloader would function much better as a menu bar app, as it would always be within reach without getting in your way.

All in all, though, this is a useful tool that can help you download high-definition YouTube videos or convert them to MP3 audio files in just a few simple steps.

Overview

Iridient X-Transformer is a utility that can be used to convert Fujifilm RAF images to DNG format using Iridient Digital’s high quality RAW processing algorithms. Much of the core RAW processing, sharpening, noise reduction and lens corrections featured in this program are shared with Iridient Developer a more full-featured RAW processor that is available only for macOS.

The Iridient RAW processing routines have been in active development for over 12 years for use in Iridient Developer and have been optimized and refined over the years for the best possible image quality. Iridient Developer is widely regarded as one of the highest quality RAW processors available.

The key RAW processing stages that can be applied by Iridient X-Transformer during conversion to DNG include:

Interpolation or demosaic processing. This transforms the camera sensor’s X-Trans or Bayer color filter information to produce a full color RGB image. This processing is always applied by Iridient X-Transformer and cannot be disabled or undone. There are two interpolation options, one for a more detailed rendering and a second smoother, lower artifact version. The algorithms are identical to the latest “detail+” and “smooth” options in Iridient Developer 3.1.4.
Sharpening. Iridient X-Transformer features advanced sharpening based on the very highly regarded “Iridient Reveal” sharpening algorithms featured in Iridient Developer. Sharpening is optional and can be adjusted (low/med/high) or disabled.
Automatic lens corrections for distortion, chromatic aberration, and vignetting. Corrections are based on native Fujifilm lens information specified in their RAF metadata. The lens correction stage is optional and lens correction information can also be passed on through DNG opcode metadata and left to later processing stages or ignored altogether. The lens correction processing in Iridient X-Transformer uses the same high quality resampling algorithms as Iridient Developer.
Color and luminance noise reduction. The noise reduction processing in Iridient X-Transformer shares much in common with the latest noise reduction available in Iridient Developer and is specifically optimized for RAW image processing. Noise reduction is optional and can be adjusted (low/med/high) or disabled.
