A dedicated Markdown preview window that watches files you edit elsewhere and renders them with themes, proofreading aids, and export options built for long-form writing on Mac.

Most Markdown editors show a basic preview, but Marked is built around the idea that you keep writing in the tool you prefer—Obsidian, VS Code, Scrivener, Ulysses, or plain text—and let Marked handle rendering, statistics, and publishing. Open a file or folder, save in your editor, and the preview refreshes automatically. That separation keeps your drafting environment lightweight while still showing headings, tables, math, diagrams, and custom CSS exactly as they will appear in export.

Preview, processors, and proofreading

Marked 3 supports multiple Markdown engines, including MultiMarkdown, Discount (GFM), CommonMark with GFM extensions, and Kramdown, plus Custom Processors and Custom Rules for scripted transforms before render. Built-in proofreading highlights repeated words, spelling issues, and CriticMarkup edits; a speed-reading overlay and autoscroll help review long drafts. Mermaid diagrams, MathJax, callouts compatible with Bear and Obsidian, wiki navigation, and mind-map embedding extend preview beyond simple HTML conversion.

Export and workflow integrations

When a draft is ready, Marked exports to PDF, HTML, RTF, EPUB, OPML, TextBundle, and DOCX—with change tracking on Word round-trips according to the vendor. Export Profiles store repeatable settings for recurring publish targets; Style Stealer and the Style Manager let previews mimic a site or publication layout. Scrivener live preview, MarsEdit support, AppleScript automation, and a command-line utility fit Marked into editorial pipelines rather than replacing them.

Licensing and fit

Marked requires macOS 11 or newer and is sold via direct download, the Mac App Store, Setapp, or a one-time Marked 3 Pro license without subscription. Subscription and permanent-unlock tiers exist on the storefront; a free trial is available. If you only need inline preview inside one editor, Marked may be more than necessary—but for book chapters, technical docs, or multi-format publishing from a single Markdown source, it remains a focused specialist tool.
