Massive X is Native Instruments’ new flagship synth, built by the same team as its predecessor. Based on a state of the art architecture, it delivers pristine sound, and huge creative flexibility for artists and sound designers alike – allowing them to create, modulate, and experiment with sound from a huge range of sources, in any way they like.

THE OSCILLATORS
At the heart of MASSIVE X you’ll find the completely new oscillator section – capable of producing more variation than some entire synths, right at the source. Choose from over 170 wavetables and 10 different modes of reading them – from the aggressive Gorilla family, to a wavetable-bending mode, Hardsync, Formant, and many more – each with their own unique sub-modes and additional controls. Dial in two phase-modulation oscillators to inject extra movement into the main oscillators.

ROUTING REIMAGINED
Connect any output to any input, and see what happens. The intuitive routing setup lets you essentially rewire parts of MASSIVE X, meaning you can bypass, feedback, and send audio any way you like. It’s also possible to route modulators as audio sources to excite elements such as the comb filter.

PERFORMERS: MADE TO MODULATE
Draw precise patterns of modulation in the Performer section, and assign them to parameters for complex, evolving patches, or for controlled changes to your sound. You can then use the Remote Octave control to trigger them on your keyboard, meaning you get truly playable modulation and huge expressive variety within a single patch.

CREATOR TOOLS
Creator Tools is a standalone application designed to improve the workflows of library builders and instrument creators. It consists of three elements: A Debugger, for identifying and fixing problems in KONTAKT script; an Instrument Editor, which can load and run Lua scripts to automap samples, duplicate and batch rename groups, and copy settings from one part of an instrument to another; and a GUI Designer, which allows creators to assemble, customize, and reuse KONTAKT performance views and controls without the need to write code.

Choose from eight new Mixer FX and three filters and assign them to a dedicated slot for quick modulation.

HOP, SKIP, AND LAND ON-BEAT
It’s not just effects that can power up your performance. Hold in the new Reverse button to play a deck backwards – because it works with Flux Mode, letting go will mean you jump to where you would have been had you done nothing at all, in perfect sync with the other decks. Create shifted percussion parts, or hidden-message vocals, and team it up with effects for sounds from another dimension. Flux Mode also works with Hotcues, loops, and scratching, for moments where you need a super-tight beat, but can’t help chopping things up.

MADE FOR DVS
For the DVS enthusiasts out there, TRAKTOR PRO 3 sees TRAKTOR SCRATCH capability included as standard. Scratch DJs can now use our timecode vinyl with any sound card they like – just hook up your turntables or CD players to your sound card and spin away. Preset Converter is a small and useful tool to convert Lightroom presets (.xmp or lrtemplate) into Capture One Styles (.costyle). Since Adobe Lightroom and Capture One are fundamentally different RAW converters with different features and algorithms, we would like to use this manual not only to explain the operation of the software but also illustrate the limits of conversion.

Preset Converter only converts from Lightroom into Capture One and not the other way round. For many features in Capture One we have not found a visual equivalent in Lightroom. Therefore the decision to only work in one direction is purely technical.

HREE NEW INSTRUMENTS
KONTAKT 6 introduces the KONTAKT Play Series: Sonically rich sample libraries that combine powerful sound design with simple playability. Each offers eight intelligently mapped macro knobs giving you a wide-sweeping, intuitive range of control. They all showcase KONTAKT’s new wavetable module, each offering two blendable sound sources and a unique take on a speciality style.

ANALOG DREAMS
Iconic 20th century hardware synthesizers captured with an intricate level of detail, and creatively processed with seminal outboard effects. This hybrid analog/digital instrument utilizes blendable sound sources to deliver a modern take on classic electro and synthwave, which have seen a resurgence in recent cinema.

ETHEREAL EARTH
Hybrid organic/electronic instrument that takes myriad acoustic instruments from around the world, and combines it with digital synthesis, organic foley layers, and effects processing. The result fuses traditional and digital, with basses, strings (bowed and plucked), wind instruments, tuned percussion, bells/metals, pads/drones, leads, and textural ambiences.

HYBRID KEYS
A contemporary, creative, and ultimately new take on keys and piano sounds. HYBRID KEYS moves away from conventional sampling processes and instead focuses on inventive techniques such as re-amping, creative mic positioning in interesting spaces, and vari-speed experiments with tape.

NEW FEATURES FOR BUILDERS
KONTAKT has long since grown beyond its origins as a software sampler, and now provides a solid foundation for building advanced sample-based instruments. CREATOR TOOLS
Creator Tools is a standalone application designed to improve the workflows of library builders and instrument creators. It consists of two elements: A Debugger, for identifying and fixing problems in KONTAKT script, and an Instrument Editor, which can load and run Lua scripts to automap samples, duplicate and batch rename groups, and copy settings from one part of an instrument to another.

Massive X is Native Instruments’ new flagship synth, built by the same team as its predecessor. Based on a state of the art architecture, it delivers pristine sound, and huge creative flexibility for artists and sound designers alike – allowing them to create, modulate, and experiment with sound from a huge range of sources, in any way they like.

THE OSCILLATORS
At the heart of MASSIVE X you’ll find the completely new oscillator section – capable of producing more variation than some entire synths, right at the source. Choose from over 170 wavetables and 10 different modes of reading them – from the aggressive Gorilla family, to a wavetable-bending mode, Hardsync, Formant, and many more – each with their own unique sub-modes and additional controls. Dial in two phase-modulation oscillators to inject extra movement into the main oscillators.

ROUTING REIMAGINED
Connect any output to any input, and see what happens. The intuitive routing setup lets you essentially rewire parts of MASSIVE X, meaning you can bypass, feedback, and send audio any way you like. It’s also possible to route modulators as audio sources to excite elements such as the comb filter.

PERFORMERS: MADE TO MODULATE
Draw precise patterns of modulation in the Performer section, and assign them to parameters for complex, evolving patches, or for controlled changes to your sound. You can then use the Remote Octave control to trigger them on your keyboard, meaning you get truly playable modulation and huge expressive variety within a single patch.

Notes:

  • It has not been possible to record automation from NI hardware controllers in Logic Pro X since version 10.4.5. Apple have confirmed that the issue will be fixed in a future update to Logic Pro X.

  • ADDED Cubase / Nuendo integration for KOMPLETE KONTROL A-Series (including M32) keyboards
  • ADDED Studio One integration (added by Presonus in version 4.5.3) for KOMPLETE KONTROL S-Series MK2, A-Series and M32 keyboards. This update supports improved track navigation from S-Series MK2 (coming in a future update to Studio One)
  • ADDED ‘Learn’ mode for Scale engine
  • FIXED content missing with error “Another scan is currently in progress” error message
  • FIXED Preferences > Hardware incorrect for KOMPLETE KONTROL A-Series (including M32) keyboards in MASCHINE
  • FIXED previous Plug-In name persists when changing to third-party products
  • FIXED MIDI automation not working after adding new Parameter page
