SaneClip

A privacy-first clipboard history manager for Mac that stores copied text and images on device, with optional iCloud sync through your own Apple account rather than vendor servers.

How it fits a Mac workflow

SaneClip runs from the menu bar and records what you copy so you can search, pin, and paste older clips again. The default shortcut opens history at the cursor or menu bar icon; number shortcuts paste recent items without opening the panel. For longer sessions, a detachable floating history window supports keyboard navigation, filters, drag-out to other apps, and a live preview pane in Pro.

The design assumes sensitive data on the clipboard: copies from common password managers can be excluded automatically, and Pro can detect and auto-purge patterns such as credit cards or tokens on a schedule you set. History can be locked behind Touch ID or your Mac login password, and Pro adds AES-256-GCM encryption at rest with keys in the system keychain.

Pro features beyond basic history

After a 14-day full Pro trial, a one-time purchase unlocks unlimited history, OCR sidecars for screenshots and window grabs, paste-as-plain-text and smart paste (URL cleaning, code detection), text transforms, snippets with placeholders, clipboard rules, a reorderable paste stack for form filling, item notes, and JSON export or import. iCloud sync pushes Mac history to the free iPhone and iPad companion while the mobile app is active; encrypted sync payloads stay unreadable to SaneApps when History Encryption is enabled.

Distribution and requirements

SaneClip requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later on Apple Silicon (M1 or newer). It is available as a direct download from the developer, on the Mac App Store, via Setapp, and through Homebrew. The project is open source under the MIT license on GitHub. Intel Macs are not supported on current builds.

Version 2.3.21 is a small maintenance release focused on direct-license validation for customers who bought the SaneApps Bundle; clipboard behavior and UI are unchanged in the official changelog for this build.
