Mountain Duck 2.5.1

Mountain Duck, based on the solid open-source foundation of Cyberduck, allows you to mount remote volumes in Finder on OS X and File Explorer on Windows. Access remote files as if they were on a local disk, and edit them with your preferred applications. A minimalist user interface in the menu bar allows you to quickly mount remote volumes. Bookmarks are shared with Cyberduck if installed.

All major protocols are supported to connect to just about any server or cloud storage, including WebDAV, Amazon S3, Microsoft Azure, OpenStack Swift, FTP, and SFTP.

Unlike other solutions, installation on OS X requires no administrator privileges and zero system extensions.

Digital cameras produce raw format images that need to be processed and converted to an editable file format before making any adjustments. Adobe Camera RAW is an Adobe Photoshop plug-in that enables you to access raw image formats generated by a wide collection of digital cameras, without having to use third party converters.

The plug-in is able to work with raw files created by Canon, Kodak, Konica Minolta, Olympus, Ricoh, Samsung, Leaf, Leica, Panasonic, Sigma, Sony, Casio, Mamiya, Nikon, Pentax, Contax, Phase One, DJI, Epson, Fujifilm, Hasselblad, or Nokia digital cameras.

However, keep in mind that only certain camera models are supported, so you should verify on the Adobe website if the files generated by your device can be processed.

Raw format converter integrated into your Adobe Photoshop app

The Adobe Camera RAW installer will take care of the plug-in assimilation process, so you will be able to access its capabilities without having to leave the Adobe Photoshop application, although in a separate window.

Note that you will be able to work directly on the “digital negatives” while keeping the original files intact. The plug-in window allows you to visualize the image, but also includes basic editing tools, enables you to see the image histogram, to adjust the image exposure, and much more.

cDock is a simple, clean and straightforward macOS application that enables you to install a 2D Dock on your Mac running 10.9 or later. On top of that, cDock helps you personalize the appearance of your Dock with several dock styles included in the app.

With the help of cDock you can make the Dock transparent or install one of the pre-defined dock styles with just a couple of mouse clicks. Within the built-in collection of themes, you’ll find a dark and grey dock, as well as pink or full-screen ones.

Create your own Dock themes and apply them with ease

The best thing about cDock is that it allows you to rapidly and effortlessly create your own custom themes by manually changing the dock settings file according to your needs.

The settings info text file provides the necessary information about the values that you can modify in order to change the look of the Dock and automatically opens when you select the “Install Customizable Dock” option and hit the “Okay” button.

From cDock’s main window, you also have the option to restart the Dock or the Finder and, as mentioned above, to install the colored Finder sidebar. On top of that, you can easily restore the Finder and the Dock to their original looks if necessary.

Go back to the original appearance and quickly restart the Dock

cDock performed well throughout our tests and allowed us to try several different looks until we where happy with the appearance of both our Mac’s Dock and Finder sidebar.

On the whole, cDock is one of those tools that should be provided by Apple but, fortunately, its developer has made it available to fill in the shoes of such a much needed default macOS utility.

Uncomplicated installation procedure and rule setup process

When you launch the Hands Off! application for the first time, the utility runs an assistant that quickly installs all required components, and helps you make simple decisions about the monitoring system.

For your convenience, Hands Off! also places a small menu in your status bar that allows you to quickly disable and enable the access rules, or access the configuration panel. If the Network Monitor function is enabled, the menu also enables you to open that panel (or you can use the Option + Command + G hotkey).

Effortlessly setup network usage and file writing permissions for applications or system processes

Within the Hands Off! Configuration window you can easily create new access rules (allow, deny, ask, hide, or preset) or edit already defined ones. Hands Off! is able to work with specific applications or with system services.

In addition, the Hands Off! utility can also limit the network usage for both incoming and outgoing connections, or the file writing and reading capabilities.

Note that when dealing with network access rules, you have the option to impose limitations only for certain IP addresses, ports or protocols. The same rule applies when dealing with disk access restrictions: you must provide the exact disk area.

Protect yourself by blocking hidden internet connections or any unapproved disk access

On the whole, Hands Off! offers you the possibility to run untrusted applications without worrying about any data leaks: the app is able to limit the incoming and outgoing network access, and can restrict the reading and writing disk permissions.

What’s New Version 14: Protection features

Intelligent Threat Cloud Service for client installation packages (Windows)

Version 14 includes three new sizes of client installation packages, based on which set of virus definitions they include:

  • Standard client: Designed for typical installations where clients have access to the cloud or the clients are version 12.1.6 and earlier. The standard client is 80% to 90% smaller than a dark network client installation package and includes the most recent virus definitions only. After installation, the client accesses the full set of virus definitions from the cloud.
  • Embedded client or VDI client: The embedded client replaces the reducedsize client that was introduced in version 12.1.6. The embedded client is smaller than the standard client and also includes the most recent virus definitions only. After installation, the client accesses the full set of virus definitions from the cloud.
  • Dark network client: Installs a full set of virus definitions and keeps the definitions locally rather than accessing them from the cloud. Use this client installation package if the client computers are in networks with no access to the cloud.
Generic Exploit Mitigation (Windows)

Generic Exploit Mitigation prevents common vulnerability attacks in typical software applications. Generic Exploit Mitigation installs with intrusion prevention and includes the following types of protection: Java exploit prevention, heap spray mitigation, and structured exception handling overwrite protection (SEHOP). The protections apply to the specific applications that are listed in the Intrusion Prevention policy. Symantec Endpoint Protection downloads the application list as part of its LiveUpdate content. To see the list of applications, open an Intrusion Prevention policy and then click Generic Exploit Mitigation.

SONAR/Auto-Protect
  • Enable Suspicious Behavior Detection option (Windows)
  • You can enable or disable suspicious behavior detection if SONAR is disabled. Therefore, you can have behavior policy enforcement protection of applications on while SONAR scoring is off.
  • Scan files on remote computers option (Windows, Linux)
  • You can disable the option for SONAR or AutoProtect to scan files on computers on other networks. Disabling this option increases performance. However, you should keep this option enabled as SONAR looks for worms such as Sality, which infects network drives. For AutoProtect scans all files reduces and reduces the client computer’s performance, you can enable the Only when files are executed option. To access these options, click Policies > Virus and Spyware Protection policy > SONAR or AutoProtect.
Virus scan logic moved to Auto-Protect user mode

Auto-Protect user mode reduces kernel memory usage and provides greater system health. In rare cases of crashes, the computer does not blue screen and is recoverable.

Emulator for packed malware

For Auto-Protect and virus scans, a new emulator improves scan performance and effectiveness by at least 10 percent. This anti-evasion technique addresses packed malware obfuscation techniques and detects the malware that is hidden inside custom packers.

Advanced Machine Learning (AML) on the endpoint for improved static detections

This new endpoint-based machine learning engine can detect malware based on static attributes. This technology enables Symantec Endpoint Protection to detect malware in the pre-execution phase, thereby stopping large classes of malware, both known and unknown. The AML engine works with the Symantec real-time cloud-based threat intelligence to provide best-in-class protection with low false positives.

Insight Lookup (Windows)
  • You can still enable or disable Insight Lookup for version 14 and legacy 12.1.x clients, but you cannot set the sensitivity level or action settings. Instead, Insight Lookup uses internal settings to optimize the scan because Download Insight detections are now completely handled by realtime protection. The new Enable Insight Lookup option on the Scan Details tab replaces the Insight Lookup tab in version 12.1.x. Open a Virus and Spyware Protection policy > AdministratorDefined Scans, choose either scheduled scans or ondemand scans, and then click Scan Details.
  • On standard and embedded/VDI clients, Insight Lookup now allows AutoProtect, scheduled scans, and manual scans to look up both file reputation information and definitions in the cloud. However, the dark network clients include the full set of definitions and do not use Insight Lookup. You enable Insight Lookup in the Clients > Policies tab > External Communications > Submissions tab.
Scheduled and on-demand scans support the %systemdrive% and %userprofile% variables (Windows)

These scans let you select specific folders to be scanned rather than scanning all the files on the Windows client computer. The %systemdrive% variable indicates the location where the Windows operating system is installed. The %userprofile% variable corresponds to the user profile folders for the users who are logged on. You can also exclude these folders from being scanned by using an Exceptions policy.

Reports display an application’s hash value you can use to block applications

You can use the hash value instead of an application’s name to add to the policies that block applications. The hash value is unique whereas an application name may not be. To find the hash value, look in the Hash Type / Application Hash column in the following reports:

  • Risk reports: Infected and At Risk Computers; Download Risk Distributions; SONAR Detection Results; SONAR Threat Distribution; Symantec Endpoint Protection Daily Status Report; and Symantec Endpoint Protection Weekly Status Report

Client submissions and server data collection

You can enable Symantec Endpoint Protection to send information about detected threats and your network configuration to Symantec. Symantec uses this information for additional analysis and to improve the security features in the product.

  • Version 14 has several new types of client submissions that you can enable. You access these options by clicking Clients > Policies tab > External Communications > Submissions tab > More options.
  • The previously existing submission types are automatically submitted with the Send anonymous data to Symantec to receive enhanced threat protection intelligence option. In 12.1.6.x and earlier, this option was labeled Let computers automatically forward selected anonymous security information to Symantec.
  • You use the new Send clientidentifiable data to Symantec for custom analysis option if you participate in a Symantecsponsored program to get recommendations specific to your security network.
  • For server data collection, the Yes, I would like to help optimize Symantec’s endpoint security solutions by submitting anonymous system and usage information to Symantec option is now labeled Send anonymous data to Symantec to receive enhanced threat protection intelligence. You access this option on the Admin > Servers > Edit Site Properties > Data Collection tab.
LiveUpdate downloads new types of content

Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager downloads additional types of content from LiveUpdate servers:

  • Client security patches
  • Endpoint Detection and Response: Definitions that the Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) component uses to detect and investigate suspicious activities and issues on hosts and endpoints.
  • Common Network Transport Library and Configuration: Definitions that the entire product uses to achieve network transportation and telemetry.

Calc

Calc is a small calculator. It’s not like a normal calculator but gives to you fields, one to write your problem and the second to show you the solution (who really uses the + and – buttons on a computer calculator anyway!). The advantage of this is that you can assign names to numbers and use the name! Eg. Height = 125px. Margin = 10. (Height * 5 + width * 4) * 2 = 1580.

Clear Cache

It does what it says it does. It quickly clears all your kind of cache. Eg. when working with scripts that doesn’t work well with After Effects cache-system it’s always handy to be able to clear the cache quickly.

Color Matcher

Match two videos with each other in only 4 clicks! Select the shadows and highlights in both the videos and Color Picker takes care of the rest! What also makes Color Picker special is the ability to dynamically change the colors of the video (check xx:xx in the tutorial-video for more information).

ExpressIOn

Turn expressions on or off with a press of a button! Do it on selected properties, property-groups, layers or all comps in your project! ExpressIOn also is great if you accidentally break an expression, like deleting a layer and undoing it. Just press the button while holding down Shift and your expressions will be back on track!

Expression Baker

Having a lot of expressions can really slow down your work. Bake them to speed up! Select one or more properties or layers and bake everything! Your expressions are of corse saved. Just delete the keyframes and activate the expressions.

Link

Link can be described like parenting but instead of inheriting properties, the properties are linked. You can link anything to anything! The position to blurriness. The masks expansion to the fractal noise’s evolution. Really anything to anything.

  • Fixed a potential problem where an occasional exception while browsing files on an ‘Admin Access’ connection was being thrown.

Apple this week introduced the latest version of the operating system that runs on the Mac, macOS. macOS Mojave is Apple’s first deviation from mountain-based naming in four years, and the update, with its new name, brings some major changes to the Mac lineup.

We went hands-on with macOS Mojave to check out all of the new features, which range from changes to the desktop and Finder to a systemwide dark mode.

According to Apple, macOS Mojave’s new dark mode was inspired by the desert at night.

An extension of the dark theme introduced in earlier version of macOS, the new dark mode is systemwide and changes the color of the dock, menu bar, applications, and more.

Native apps like Mail, Calendar, iTunes, and Xcode, all change when dark mode is enabled.

Desktop Stacks, a new feature designed to organize files left on the desktop, puts all of your files into neat, easily browsable piles that can be sorted by name, type, date, and other parameters. Dynamic desktop wallpapers are also available, with the design changing over the course of the day.

There’s a new Gallery View in Finder for previewing files, and a new Sidebar provides detailed information for files, such as metadata for images. Quick Actions let you do more with your files without ever leaving Finder, while markup integration in Quick Look makes it easier to implement quick edits to a single file.

Screenshots got an iOS-style upgrade with markup integration and new options for recording video, while Continuity Camera lets you take a photo on the iPhone and automatically port it to the Mac.

Several iOS apps are coming to the Mac as part of a new Apple initiative to make it easier to port iOS apps to the Mac, with Apple introducing News, Stocks, Voice Memos, and Home for macOS.

Security and privacy improvements allow apps to access less of your sensitive data, while Safari is gaining new tools that will make you even harder to track across the web.

Finally, macOS Mojave brings an entirely redesigned Mac App Store that will make finding apps on the Mac a simpler experience. The new Mac App Store features editorial content like the iOS App Store, along with new function-specific tabs, video ratings, and more informative product pages.

macOS Mojave is currently available to developers for beta testing, and later this summer, Apple will make a public beta available for its public beta testers. The new software will see an official release in the fall.

macOS Mojave drops support for some older Macs and will run on 2015 and newer MacBooks, 2012 and newer MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac models, the 2017 iMac Pro, and Mac Pro models from late 2013 and mid-2010 and mid-2012 models with Metal-capable GPUs.
