We’ll bet that many of you have flash drives, memory cards, even hard disks that aren’t formatted for Mac. Techtool Pro 10 now supports testing and repair of MS-DOS (FAT32) and ExFAT formatted volumes. This means that you can now test and repair those memory cards from your camera, or that thumb drive your friend gave you with all those important files. Avoid losing your precious pictures – find out if those cards and drives have problems before you run into data loss.

  • TechTool Protection – Reengineered to better protect your Mac – TechTool Pro 9 includes the option of installing a system preference pane to keep watch over your Mac. New features include check for I/O errors, Power On Self-Test errors, Mac notebook internal battery condition, and RAID status (if applicable). It also includes the same improvements to the SMART check in TechTool Pro. All of that, wrapped in an entirely new interface.
  • Check Computer – Now you’re in control – Check Computer is a handy way to tell TechTool Pro to run the entire suite of tests to give you the best possible snapshot of your Mac’s health. Sometimes, though, it’s nice to be able to leave tests out, or to skip certain drives. Using the new configuration panel, you have total control of the Check Computer suite. Power to the people.
  • Partition Map – new drive test – TechTool Pro has long been known for testing your Mac’s file system. It is important also to test the data structures that contain the Mac’s file system: the Partition Map. The new Partition Map test checks the partition map of a given drive for errors. Partition map errors can cause entire volumes to go missing, or prevent a Mac from booting. If errors are found, they can be repaired usin the Partition Repair tool.
  • Partition Repair – new drive repair tool – Along with Volume Rebuild, which repairs Mac file systems, the Partition Repair tool repairs the remaining portions of the drive which keeps track of the volumes on your hard drive. This includes hidden partitions which keep track of your Mac’s startup process. The Partition Repair tool does just what it says, repairing the partition maps or drives where needed.
  • SMART Check – Now even smarter – Hard drives include a technology called SMART (Self Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) which can inform a computer about the health of its hard drives. In most utilities, just the overall results – passed or failed – are reported to the user. In the failed state, often there is little or no time to back up data before the drive fails entirely. Previous versions of TechTool Pro reported the overall status of each attribute, but some attributes don’t contribute to the failure of a drive. Now, the SMART Check has gotten smarter. TechTool Pro now knows which attributes contribute to drive failure, and will report a failing result before the drive fails completely. Giving you time to rescue your data.
  • Memory Test – Now better than ever before – TechTool Pro 7 took a revolutionary step in testing memory, making TechTool Pro’s memory testing suite the most comprehensive test available for the Mac. In TechTool Pro 9, we’ve taken some of the additional advancements used by ATOMIC, our dedicated Memory Tester, and integrated them into TechTool Pro. Now, memory is ‘cleaned’ before testing, reclaimed from macOS, maximizing the amount of RAM that can be tested.
  • Processor Benchmark – Get an objective measurement of your Mac’s processor performance. The Processor Benchmark too uses industry-standard measurement algorithms to test processor performance. Using this tool, you can get metrics that can be used to compare processor speeds apples-to-apples. Avoids the confusion of comparison using Megahertz.
  • Bluetooth – New test – Most Macs depend on Bluetooth to connect to the tools we use to interact with our computers: the keyboard and mouse. Bluetooth problems can result in dropped connections with those devices, which can be very frustrating. Verify the proper operation of your Mac’s Bluetooth hardware. Make sure that not only your input devices, but also your audio and fitness devices can connect to your Mac by checking the Bluetooth hardware on your Mac.
  • Network Interfaces – New test – Most Macs spend the majority of their lives connected to the internet. If the ethernet or wifi adapters in your Mac aren’t working, the valuable connection to the internet can fail. The new Network Interfaces test can test any connected network interface for errors. It not only tests ethernet and wifi, but also any other supported internet connection, ethernet over USB, VPN connections, even a FireWire network conneciton. Ensure the reilability of your internet and intranet connections by testing your Mac’s network interfaces.

Align to Path allows you to attach and align layers to single or multiple motion paths. Like Magic!

 

How to use:

  1. Select the layer(s) you want to attach to a motion path
  2. Add to your selection any masks you want to use as a motion path (IMPORANT – Select the Mask NAME, not the Mask PATH)
  3. Run the script.

Interface Options:

  • Keep Position Offset
    Keep the layer at it’s current position
  • Auto-Orient to Path
    Should the layer by automatically oriented while following the path
    (Note: Auto-Orient only works after an initial keyframe is created on the Motion Path Complete slider)
  • Updating Paths
    Every path you add will show up in this list

    To update them do the following:

    1. Edit the original Mask Path (The path can not be animated)
    2. Select the Mask(s) you want to update in the GUI
    3. Click Update

    All your connected layers should jump to their new positions
    Any existing keyframes will stay in place

    Use the “Clear” button to empty the list
    (This is necessary if you undo the adding of a motion path)

Control:

  • Motion Path Completion
    Animate through all of your paths sequentially
    When this is activated, the sliders for individual paths have no effect
  • Complete Sequentially
    How far along on the motion path(s) the layer is. Range 0→100
  • One slider per motion path
    You can animate what % you want each motion path to contribute
    If all sliders are set to 0, then you can set a keyframe like normal on your layer

Things to keep in mind:

  • The sliders are only valid in the range of 0 100. If the slider is moved outside this range, it will get calculated as 0 or 100
    (All sliders are normalized to 100% — The values are added together, and divided by the # of sliders.)
  • The script makes a null per each of your motion paths. However, they are put as the last layers in your comp, locked, hidden, and set to shy mode
  • If the Mask Layer is rotated or scaled, motion paths will not reflect this (the same as when copying a mask in the interface)
  • Even with Orient Along Path selected, you can still animate the rotation of the layer like normal
  • When using Complete Sequentially, the masks will complete in alphabetical order

Scapple is the software equivalent of how I work out my rough ideas on paper. (If I didn’t hate the word “brainstorming” so much, I’d probably call it brainstorming software.) When I’m in the early stages of any project, whether that’s a writing project or a software project, I tend to throw a bunch of ideas down on a big piece of paper, spacing out as-yet unrelated ideas, clustering related notes, and drawing connections between them, trying to work out how everything fits together.

In short, then, Scapple is a tool for getting early ideas down as quickly as possible and making connections between them. The main advantage of doing this in Scapple instead of on paper is that you don’t run out of paper (the Scapple canvas expands to fit as many notes as you want to create), you can move notes around to make room for new ideas and connections, it’s easy to delete and edit notes, and it’s easy to export your notes into other applications when you know what you want to do with them.

I’m well aware that there’s already a plethora of mind-mapping software out there. Where Scapple is slightly different from most is that it doesn’t force you to make any connections, and it doesn’t expect you to start out with one central idea and branch everything else off that. Instead, you are free to write anywhere on the virtual paper and individual notes can be a short or as long as you like. Creating and removing connections is as easy as dragging one note onto another. Most importantly, because its purpose is to allow you to get ideas down and make connections between them quickly, Scapple is dead simple to use. Although I’m currently writing a full manual for it, the QuickStart Guide a little further down should contain everything you need to dig in and get using Scapple.

We have been working hard on getting our MailSuite ready for Mac OS 10.14 Mojave. With MailSuite we will be migrating our 4 core products( MailTags, Mail Act-On, Mail Perspectives, and SigPro ) to a single plugin: SmallCubed MailSuite.

Provide full compatibility with different email servers. Past versions of MailTags could not sync all tag data for Gmail messages and some other servers. Now complete tag data will synchronise for all messages regardless of the type of mail server.

Dramatically increase the speed that tags are saved and synced between computers. Past versions of MailTags required each message to rewrite its full contents to the IMAP server when saving tags. For larger messages, this needed significant time and bandwidth. Now, only the tag information is synced.

Improve reliability. Because tag data was stored inside each message, MailTags had to do a lot of work behind the scenes to ensure that tags remain intact between different actions (such as rules application, moving messages, rebuilding accounts) Now tag data are separate records which are associated with each message, it is much simpler and more reliable to store and sync data and the original messages are not altered.

Build future products. Changing the tagging mechanism is essential for our future directions including being able to work with tag data on other platforms such as iOS. We plan to communicate more about this soon.

There are a few implications of this change in tag format:
To sync tag data, we need to employ a separate server managed by SmallCubed. Privacy and security are critical to us, and we strongly feel that no service should have access to email accounts or content. We have designed our service with this in mind, and no content from original emails is stored on our servers. For each message we store two pieces of information: a unique key for the message generated from a “one-way hash” of specific message header information, and the encrypted tag data for the message. For more information check our security documentation.

The new tag format is NOT compatible with older versions of MailTags. If you work with tag data in SmallCubed MailSuite, computers with MailTags versions 2-5 will not work with this new format. We are planning to make SmallCubed MailSuite compatible with OS versions going back to 10.12 to accommodate mixed OS environments. We will steer you through importing tag data from the older format.

Messages within the same account cannot have distinct tags. Each instance of a specific message in an email account shares the same identifier, and so share the same tag data. This may affect those who tag the same message differently for different mailboxes on the same account.

Sharing tag data between users who share an IMAP account is forthcoming. If data sharing is essential to your workflow, we recommend that you do not upgrade to macOS 10.14 Mojave at this time. We expect tag sharing to be ready before the end of the year

WidsMob Panorama is an easy photo-stitching program to make the creation of panoramas simpler. When you camera could not get everything as your eye view, you can use the panoramic image stitching software for Windows and macOS to form a composite image.

The program is able to auto stitch collections of unordered images into panoramas. It aligns images without manually messing around moving photos, automatic exposure leveling and lens shading correction. What is more, the program automatic crops the extras to present the best panorama photography.
