Syne is a fully modular additive synthesizer with a beautiful analog sound and extreme flexibility. Introducing Syne, the most powerful and flexible modular additive synthesizer.

Syne
Syne is a new, fully modular additive synthesizer capable of rendering more than 20000 partials on a recent CPU (=powerful) while having full control over each partial (=flexible). This allows making complex sounds that are not possible with other types of synthesis.

Cleanest possible analog sound
There is only one thing better than having a good antialiasing filter: when you don’t need one. Additive synthesis is trivially bandlimited simply by not generating harmonics higher than half the sampling rate. Syne provides the cleanest sound possible, suitable for electronic music.

Extreme flexibility
Create any moving filters that you’d like without limitations of the PCM filter design! Assign any MIDI CC’s, time or automation to any parameters. Set up LFO rate and depth as a function of frequency, so that each partial has its own setting. Use different decay for each partial. Almost anything is possible.

Wavetable import
The wavetables are not just spectral interpolated, but kept in the spectral domain all the time during synthesis. Generate a random wavetable for a single click in the Wave Morpher. In Syne you can use non-harmonic partials in wavetables which is not possible in a wavetable synthesizer.

30+ modules included
All the modules work on hundreds or thousands of sinusoidal oscillators. This is very different from PCM modular synthesis because it allows effects that are not possible with a PCM signal. Make great sounds with just 3-4 modules! Combine simple waveforms together to create complex sounds. Modules can store presets that you can recall anytime.

It is possible to generate new presets or mutate existing presets by a percentage, with many options.

Simple user interface
We made the UI as simple as possible. Instead of having hundreds of knobs and junctions for a usual modular synth, using Syne is simple and straightforward. Zooming in is smooth and will show more details. Font size and all colors of the UI are adjustable.

Small and efficient
Additive synthesis is very processor intensive. Calculating each sound sample requires summing hundreds or thousands of oscillators depending on the sound complexity and polyphony. We developed a highly efficient engine capable of rendering 15000 partials on an older processor that supports SSE3, and well over 20000 on a newer processor with AVX2 support.

– Aftertouch is now preserved when you record or import MIDI.
– Hi-hat CC is no longer converted to notes when recording.

The reported latency was too small when a sample rate other than 44100 Hz was used.
Fixed a sound glitch that could occur if a host requested less than 16 samples.

Drums Tab
It no longer crashes on Mac if you ctrl-click a stack pad and select a different sound from the context menu.

Grooves Tab
Changing position in a browser groove being played in original tempo caused the looping to jump back to the wrong position.
During browser playback with “Preview in Original Tempo” active, mixer effects that sync to tempo now use the correct tempo.
Fixed a possible crash when user MIDI was synchronized/added.
On Mac, the browser should no longer sometimes stay dimmed out when MIDI is dragged out from the window.

Grid Editor
Fixed a potential crash when Randomize was used.

Song Track
The undo system can now handle more than 128 song blocks.
Exporting audio using “Bounce Microphone Channels” would in certain cases (involving having instrument stacks) result in incomplete exports.

SPAN Plus is a real-time “fast Fourier transform” audio spectrum analyzer AAX, AudioUnit and VST plugin for professional sound and music production applications.

SPAN Plus is an extended version of the freeware SPAN plugin: SPAN Plus provides several additional features such as PNG file export, real-time spectrum import/export for cross-track spectrum comparisons, and static spectrums display.

SPAN Plus provides you with a very flexible “mode” system which you can use to setup your spectrum analyzer preferences. You may specify Fourier block size in samples, FFT window overlap percentage, spectrum’s visual slope. Beside that you can choose to display secondary spectrum of a desired type (e.g. real-time maximum, all-time maximum). Spectrum can be smoothed out visually for an easier examination.

Beside cross-track spectrum comparison, SPAN Plus supports multi-channel analysis and can be set to display spectrums from two different channels or channel groups at the same time. Spectrum’s color can be chosen to taste.

SPAN Plus also features output level metering with adjustable ballistics and integration time, EBU R128, K-system metering (including calibration K-system metering). SPAN Plus displays level metering statistics, headroom estimation and true peak clipping detection. Correlation metering is available as well.

denise audio has released Bad Tape, described as “a tape harming effect plugin”. Its focus is on creating extreme tape artifacts.

The inspiration for Bad Tape came from denise team member Enrico ‘nrec’ Tiberi: “I was using a lot of my old Akai 4000 DS MK2 reel to reel tape recorder pressing the tape to slow it down as an effect and that made me want a plugin that could control how to break the sound without having to use my fingers each time and without all the cables and fuss that analog hardware inevitably brings”.

Combining a good old vintage tape sound with harming features makes Bad Tape a creative and versatile tool. Want an “out of tune and off the grid” beat or a wonky drum groove? Just keep the detune button pressed and it will create a tape-stop in real time. Press it shortly for slight slow-downs and speed-ups, or use wow and shake to make it go in and out of tune and go off grid periodically. Use the mix knob to create tracks that are heavily saturated and detuned, with additional interesting tape artifacts like hiss, squeal and harm. Bad Tape can be used to color and detune your whole track, or it can be applied to just one bar at the end of a section to help introduce some variation and lead in the next section of your song.

  • The “old-style hijacker” option has been removed from Piezo’s Hidden Preferences.
