Photo Formation is a photo effect that auto-transforms images into super creative paper formations then uses a 3D light engine to cast ultra cool shadows. We make it easy to use without taking control away from you, the artist. If you are the hands on type who likes to make stuff from scratch, an Auto Generate button gets you in the creative mode by starting the initial paper effect for you then presents a control panel so you can make it exactly the way you like. It’s not as much work as it sounds, just specify how many strips, tiles or folds; how much curl, crinkle or depth; and if you want exposure, opacity, texture and grain. An apply button renders the creation to the document where you finish it off by moving around paper elements (only if you want), and adding optional photo settings.

What sets Photo Formation apart from others is it’s powerful lighting system. Oriented in a 2D space, Photo Formation renders true 3D popping folds and creases along with all their perspective distortions that cast realistic shadows for an amazing high-end result! The lighting is fully adjustable and by simply moving it around the document you can change the direction of the shadows. You can also set up multiple light sources by duplicating the light to create fantastic double and triple shadows—how many is up to you!

Standard image capture data like aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and focal length can be accessed through “variables” and tucked-away in any IPTC field such as the caption. You can also use variables representing the current or capture time, date, or frame number, for example, for file renaming purposes. IPTC fields can be extracted using variables for use in renaming – even the filename variable can be placed in an IPTC field. One important variable called the sequence variable can be used for sequential naming or to serialize certain IPTC fields. In all, Photo Mechanic has more than 60 variables that enable customized workflows for captioning and renaming photos. The possibilities are endless!

Photo Mechanic can also print contact sheets and export HTML for Web pages. You can control the layout and size of your thumbnails, and even use Photo Mechanic’s image variables to customize the text for thumbnail titles and page headers or footers, making Photo Mechanic one of the most flexible tools available for formatting your output.

Known Issues

  • In the File List pane, file type icon is missing if file type is .afphoto.
  • Assigning metadata via the Batch tool fails if preceded by a Move or Copy action.
  • Embedding ACDSee Metadata may fail if file type is PNG.
  • When embedding ACDSee Metadata, or writing GPS or Reverse Geocode info to many files, a delay may occur before the operation begins.
  • Search by EXIF Shutter Speed Value returns incorrect results. Workaround: search by EXIF Exposure Time.
  • Image doesn’t fit display when app moved to another monitor and Full Screen enabled.
  • File List items are sorted by name if items are uncataloged and sort method is based on EXIF or IPTC metadata.
  • Find Duplicates tool doesn’t work with iCloud Drive.
  • Restore Database will not begin if the database to be restored is currently open. Workaround: close all apps that are using the database to be restored.
  • Disconnecting an iOS device while importing will crash ACDSee.
  • Move to Trash will not work on images stored on cameras.
  • Batch Copy and Batch Move will not work for images stored on cameras.
  • PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) not supported.
  • Develop mode changes are not remembered when group is deactivated.
  • No method available to view RGB values while using Eye Dropper to set White Balance.
  • Cannot copy read-only EXIF metadata values to the clipboard.
  • Cannot read any ACDSee Metadata embedded in BMP, CUR, DDS, EXR, GIF, HDR, ICO, JP2, MEF, PBM, PSD, or TGA.
  • Batch Copy operation hangs when Place in subfolder option enabled, “Date” token added to the Name, and date format includes slash character (“/”). Workaround: In System Preferences > Language & Region > Advanced… > Dates, remove “/” from the desired format.
  • Import ignores video portion of Live Photos.
  • Keyword/Category assignment may fail if target is unscanned image basket item.
  • ACDSee will not function correctly if the ACDSee database is locked or read-only.
  • ACDSee does not support multiple clients connecting to the same database. ACDSee will become unresponsive if trying to connect to a database that is already open in another instance of ACDSee.
  • Status bar count may be wrong if empty smart folder selected.
  • Watermark tool Center button doesn’t center watermark for all images in the Batch if images are different sizes.
  • Running Batch Add Watermark while an unsupported image is in preview does not apply watermark.
  • Compare Images Active View is empty if selected image is an orphan.
  • Startup time may be impacted if Image Basket contains many items.
  • External Editors feature does not support images on cameras.
  • Keyboard shortcuts assigned to commands that can be renamed, (such as Categories, Batch Presets, External Editors), need to be re-assigned if command is renamed.
  • On macOS 10.14 and 10.15, writing a Spotlight Comment fails with error “Source file not found”.
  • Adding media files (e.g. audio, video files) to Image Basket is not supported.
  • The folder tree fails to refresh after cut/paste or drag-and-drop Move operations. Workaround: View > Refresh Folders Pane (option command R).
  • PSD files cannot be placed on the Map.

Notes

  • It’s highly recommended to embed ACDSee Metadata prior to importing or restoring a database from a previous version of ACDSee.
  • When importing a previous version’s database, please ensure the previous version of the application is closed.
  • Importing a previous version’s database may cause the Date Modified timestamp to update but does not modify the actual contents of the database.
  • In macOS 10.15 Catalina, apps require permission before directly accessing files in certain folders and external volumes. Please allow ACDSee to access files when prompted, or as follows: go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Files and Folders, find ACDSee, and check the applicable boxes.
  • ACDSee writes metadata to a sidecar file in a hidden subfolder relative to the original file if filetype is HEIC

Correct any residual imperfections with the cloning stamp.

Cloning stamp

Use the cloning stamp to perfect your editing or to clone contrasting features. Existing objects can be redrawn on the screen with the cloning stamp. Repeat this process as often as you like to create amazing double effects!

Cutting out in a few clicks

With inPixio Photo Clip, your digital scissors, cut out any detail, individual, object or even landscape in your photos. Select the outline of the person using the slider or the background to erase, and the Photo Clip algorithm then runs automatically! Conversely, you can use the “keep” slider for important features to make sure your cut-out is perfect. Even hair, drops of water and the finest details are removed from the background down to the nearest pixel.

Then put the cut objects on the available backgrounds to make photomontages or collages in an instant! Just select your background pattern from the new original images, or download your own images for unique photomontages.

Add filters:

From over 100 filters classified by theme, choose the one which best suits your photo.

Add a frame:

Find the right frame for your photo from over 100 models sorted by type (classic, retro, sport, travel etc.)

Crop your photos:

Crop your photos manually or choose from the suggested crop formats: 1/1; 16/9; 3/4 etc. You can also rotate your images and adjust the angle.
