When installing apps outside the Mac App Store, macOS may block the launch and show one of the errors below. Each section explains what the message means and how to fix it.

1. App Not from Mac App Store

If your Mac is set to allow installations only from the App Store and you try to install an app from another source, macOS will show a message that the app was not downloaded from the App Store.

Show solution…

Open System Settings > Privacy & Security.

Enable apps downloaded from App Store and identified developers. You will need an administrator password or Touch ID.

Done — you can now run apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers.

If this does not help, see the article on disabling Gatekeeper and performing a de-quarantine.

2. App from an Unidentified Developer

If your Mac allows apps from the App Store and identified developers, but you try to open an app that is not registered with Apple, you will see a warning.

Hold down the Control (⌃) key and click the app icon, then select Open from the context menu. Alternatively, double-click the app, click OK in the warning, then right-click the app and choose Open.

Click Open in the dialog.

The app is added to the security exceptions list. After that, you can launch it with a normal double-click or from Launchpad.

This solution also works for the error in the next section.

If this does not help, see the article on disabling Gatekeeper and performing a de-quarantine.

3. Cannot Check for Malicious Software

Since Apple introduced mandatory app notarization (starting with macOS Catalina), macOS may block unverified apps from running — even if they are signed by a registered developer.

Show solution…

Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS) and go to Privacy & Security > General.

Click Open Anyway next to the blocked app message, then click Open in the confirmation dialog.

The app is saved in the security exceptions list and can be opened with a normal double-click or from Launchpad, like any other registered app.

This solution also works for the previous error.

If this does not help, see the article on disabling Gatekeeper and performing a de-quarantine.

4. App Is Damaged

If macOS detects a problem with an app — for example, malicious content or modifications made after verification — you will be notified when opening it and asked to move it to the Trash.

Show solution…

Use the Auto Fix script for an automatic fix.
Download it from the link provided with your download.

Or run this command in Terminal: sudo xattr -r -c followed by the path to the damaged app. Replace LockedApp.app with your app name:

sudo xattr -r -c /Applications/LockedApp.app

Open Terminal via Spotlight. Drag the app into the Terminal window to insert its path automatically. The command does not work on files inside a mounted .dmg — copy the app to Desktop or Applications first.

Learn more in the article on disabling Gatekeeper.

5. Disk Image Corrupted

This error appears when the file was not downloaded completely or the download was corrupted.

Show solution…

To avoid this problem, use download managers such as:

• Free Download Manager
• Motrix
• JDownloader 2
• Progressive Downloader
• and other similar programs

These apps download files faster with multi-threaded connections, keep the connection stable, and protect against interruptions. With a browser extension, they can intercept links and replace the built-in download with a more reliable one.

For a download manager setup example, configure your chosen program according to its official documentation.

6. Adobe Install Error

This error occurs when installing Creative Cloud apps that use local installation packages.

Show solution…

This method does not work on Macs with Apple Silicon for Adobe 2021 builds from TNT Team.

Right-click the Install file and select Show Package Contents.

Go to Contents > MacOS. Run the Unix executable file named Install. A Terminal window will open and launch the installer. Enter your administrator password to allow the installation.

You can install in trial mode, use a serial number, or confirm your Creative Cloud subscription.

7. Adobe Error 1 — Rosetta Required

This error appears if Rosetta is not installed. Rosetta is an Apple utility that lets you run apps built for Intel Macs on Apple Silicon Macs. If you recently bought a Mac and macOS is still new to you: Rosetta is not installed by default and macOS offers to install it when you launch Intel-only apps.

Show solution…

1. Open Terminal.
Applications → Utilities → Terminal. A command window will open showing the date, your username, and device name.

2. Copy and paste this command:

/usr/sbin/softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license

3. Press Enter.

You need an internet connection to install Rosetta. Wait until the download and installation finish. Terminal will show: Install of Rosetta 2 finished successfully.

4. Run the Adobe installation again.

8. CCXProcess Install Error

Problem: The CCXProcess component (part of Creative Cloud) fails to install.
Cause: Rosetta (needed to run Intel code on Apple Silicon) is not installed.

Show solution…

Solution:

1. Open Terminal.

2. Install Rosetta with this command:

/usr/sbin/softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license

3. Wait for the message: Install of Rosetta 2 finished successfully.

4. Run the Adobe installation again — CCXProcess should install without errors.

9. Cannot Install on Intel Processors

Reason: Monter Group releases support only Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, and newer). Intel architecture is incompatible with Apple Silicon.

Learn more and solution options…

In simple terms:

Architecture is the “language” of the processor.

• Intel speaks English.
• Apple Silicon speaks Russian.
• A Russian-language app will not be understood by an English-speaking processor.

Universal apps contain both languages and work on all Macs.

Rosetta is a translator: it lets Intel apps run on Apple Silicon, but with extra load on the system.

Solution: Use universal builds or releases matched to your Mac:

• Releases with Adobe Activation Tool.
• Releases from QiuChenly.
• Releases from RiD.
