MIDI Editing Improvements

Set the selected clip’s scale in Live’s Control Bar to see its notes in any clip you create. Expanded probability
Assign a single probability rule to a group of notes so that the entire group of notes is played whenever the trigger is fired. Or select a chord and tell Live to randomly play one note from it whenever the probability trigger is fired.

Follow your preferred tuning systems or try different ones more easily. Work outside the 12-tone equal temperament system, and access tunings with Live’s devices as well as any MPE-capable plugin.

Meld
A bi-timbral, MPE-capable instrument designed for deep sound shaping that lets you create a wide array of textural and experimental tones with its two easy-to-use macro oscillators.

Granulator III
The latest iteration of Robert Henke’s granular instrument now has MPE capability, giving you expressive control over parameters like note bend, vibrato and glissando. Plus, you can now capture audio in real time and start manipulating it immediately.

Roar
Create everything from subtle and precise mastering-grade warmth to wild and unpredictable sound degradation with Live’s new coloring and saturation effect. Modulation destinations are no longer taken over by the modulation source. Live 12’s sound content is also tagged using a new system that acts as a more flexible alternative or addition to Collections in the sidebar. Sounds now come with sensible labels to make them easier to find – but if you need more detail, or just want to use your own method of labeling, you can also add your own.

Aside from Live 12’s built-in tags, you can create your own custom categories in the sidebar for easy access to all your favorite sounds and devices in the way that makes the most sense to your workflow.

Sound Similarity Search
Start with a sample and tell Live’s browser to find comparable sounds and instrument presets, with the help of a neural network.
Or swap all the samples in your Drum Rack for similar ones to quickly try out new percussive textures – like a drum machine with seemingly-infinite kits.

Browser History
Retrace your steps, and see and hear the sounds or categories you’ve previously searched for: Live’s Browser now lets you backtrack through your search history as you would with a web browser.

Accessibility and navigation improvements

Even more editing improvements
Nuendo 12 offers many new detail tools and shortcuts for audio event fade editing, including the new size with fade modifier key.
You can now also use key commands to increase or decrease a range selection in all four directions, including moving the range selection itself.
There is a new option to create or modify fade in/out length while resizing events by holding a modifier key and using the Select tool.
You can now assign key commands for slip editing besides using the mouse and tool modifiers.

Dialogue Recording

The TTAL script content is converted to record-ready ADR markers, including the dialogue text, characters and useful metadata, such as on/off screen notices, etc. Script change decisions made during the ADR production can be documented within the Nuendo marker editor and brought back to the workflow through the TTAL export function.

Connection to EdiCue
Nuendo 12 supports EdiCue v4, the award-winning ADR cueing application.Creating cues in Nuendo with the EdiCue Project Interface window allows dialogue supervisors to load character text from PDF shooting scripts and apply the required properties to enable a smooth recording session. Cue data is stored in Nuendo’s cycle markers, allowing for instant record. Alternatively, EdiCue can import cue data from EdiCue PDF cue sheets to send directly to Nuendo, ready for recording. They also felt that its user interface could use some improvement.

Valhalla Vintage Verb is a plugin with the sounds of various late 1970s and 1980s digital reverberators, including ones which sound like Lexicon and EMT reverbs. This plugin has been used song such as Hello and Water Under the Bridge by Adele, as well as on Lana Del Rey’s album “Lust for Life”. It is possible to change the decay rate of different frequencies, and the early and late diffusion can have separate settings.

The plugin has 20 different algorithms, including:
★ Concert Hall, emulating a “late 1970s and early 1980s” reverb in “hall” mode
★ Plate, emulating an “early 1980s” reverb in “plate” mode
★ Chamber, a “transparent” algorithm described as being “smooth yet dense”
★ Random Space and Smooth Room, which are inspired by or emulate “late 1980s” reverb hardware
★ Sanctuary, which emulates a “a classic German digital reverberator from the 1970s”
★ Nonlin, a modern representation of 1980s gated reverb algorithms
★ Chaotic Neutral, a “colorless” sounding reverberation

ValhallaDSP says this reverb is best for the sound of “old school digital hardware reverbs”. One review feels that while it is excellent for getting the unreal larger than life sound of a classic Lexicon reverb, it does not work as a subtle reverb effect and is not a reverb for every occasion.

Valhalla Plate v1.6.3
Valhalla Plate is a plug in which simulates the sound of a plate reverb or small chamber. It has 12 different algorithms.
ValhallaDSP says this reverb is best for the sound of “warm and dense reverbs of the 1960s and 70s”. Third party reviews of Valhalla Plate have been generally positive, but one review pointed out that “it won’t serve all needs”, since it only simulates plates and small chambers, and does not emulate larger spaces.

Valhalla Supermassive v5.0.0
Valhalla Supermassive is an effect unit which can run various types of delays and reverbs; it is good at, among other things, emulating large spaces. It is a free download.

Valhalla Delay is a plugin which simulates the sounds of a number of vintage delays, including tape based delays (such as the sound of Roland Space Echo, Maestro Echoplex, or reel to reel based tape delay units), “bucket brigade” delays, 1980s digital delays, and delays with pitch shifting. When KORG released the limited- edition ARP 2600 FS in 2020, they sold out immediately world-wide. Now, KORG is pleased to present the first truly accurate software re-creation of this essential synthesizer: the KORG Collection ARP 2600.

KORG’s proprietary CMT technology faithfully reproduces the distinctive waveforms and filters, the custom LFO and envelope shapes, the many subtle nonlinearities, even the behavior of the patch panel – unlike any other 2600 software instrument. Thanks to this obsessive attention to detail, you can open the original ARP 2600 Patch Book (available as a free PDF on KORG’s website), hook up each of the 100 patches on screen, and they will sound just like an authentic ARP 2600 – something that no other 2600 plug-in can do.

Bringing the 2600 into the modern age
Preserving the fantastic sound quality, incredible flexibility, and quirky attitude of the original was only the beginning. To truly honor the legacy of this legendary instrument, we asked ourselves: if ARP redesigned the 2600 today, what would it be like? In response we made many improvements, including adding a second filter, a drive section, new modulation sources, extensive MIDI control, a sophisticated sequencer, up to 16-voice polyphony, and much more – all while keeping the spirit of the original ARP 2600 design.

Beauty in the details
Our engineers spent considerable time understanding every detail of the original and modern schematics, poring over the original 2600 manuals, testing with oscilloscopes, and most importantly listening.The original AR and ADSR envelopes, for example, might seem simple – but it took a lot of time and tweaking to get them just right. The oscillator waveforms are correct, including the slight imperfections that add a unique brightness (especially for the triangle and sine). We modeled both of the original VCF modules, the 4012 and the 4072, with a switch to select between them. We included all of the many saturation points on the original hardware, with subtle distortions that bring life to the sound. Extensive anti-aliasing techniques spread throughout the different modules let us deliver truly premium audio quality. KORG’s Component Modeling Technology (CMT) includes variations between analog components, just as you’d find with multiple hardware 2600s, to deliver natural richness when playing polyphonically.

Outside the patch panel, there are 20-odd Trim Pots to select between behaviors of different 2600 vintages, dial in calibration details such as square wave width and triangle wave symmetry (just like the original hardware), and more.

Preserving and expanding the 2600 spirit
Even more than most vintage synths, the 2600 has a character all its own. To begin with, no two sections are alike; each has its own purpose (often more than one) and capabilities to match. Each of the three VCOs has different features.The two envelopes work very differently. There are many hidden quirks, such as different ranges for identical-looking control inputs, phase inversions, and unusual waveforms. It’s a carefully considered instrument, but it also feels like a collection of bespoke modules. The differences guide the eye, and also simply make it fun to play around with. There’s a constant sense of discovery, of “wow, I can make it do that, too!”

When adding all of the new capabilities, we were determined to preserve the spirit of the original instrument. So, we resisted the modern urge to unify and standardize. Each of the VCOs is still different. When we added an envelope and an LFO, we made sure that they were different from the originals, enabling new sounds instead of just “more.” When we added a second filter, we made it entirely different from the main VCF. Each new feature speaks with its own voice. All of the additions have sensible normalled connections, incorporating the new LFO, envelope, and sequencer.

We also kept all of the controls of the original instrument, and even with all of the additions, we preserved the basic layout. If you’re familiar with the old 2600, or KORG’s new 2600 FS and 2600 M, you’ll feel right at home – but with even more to play with.

Modwave Native Wavetable Synthesizer Synthesis powerhouse with distinctive wavetable timbres, Kaoss Physics, and Motion Sequencing 2.0. The modwave, released in 2021, builds on the DW legacy and transforms it into a modern monster synth, featuring incredibly deep wavetable oscillators, gorgeous filters, wildly flexible modulation, sophisticated pattern sequencing, and macro controls to deliver unique, powerful, and easily customizable sounds and phrases.

What’s a wavetable?
Wavetables are sets of single-cycle digital waveforms, arranged in a specific order. The wavetable’s “position” determines which waveform is played. Moving the position with an envelope, LFO, or other modulation source creates subtle or dramatic changes in timbre. Some wavetable systems switch abruptly from one waveform to another; others crossfade smoothly between them. The modwave can do either one.

Modifiers
Use over 30 Modifiers to alter the character of any wavetable at load time. For instance, isolate the odd or even harmonics, add weight through anti-aliased quantization or saturation, or revisit the gritty character of old-school wavetable synths with the Vintage 8 & 12 options.

Morph
The 13 Morph Types let you stretch, squeeze, reflect, and otherwise alter the wavetables in real-time, changing their timbre and—when modulated—creating additional motion in the sound. Sync creates classic swept-sync timbres, using only a single oscillator. Three special Morph Types—FM, AM, and Ring Mod—modulate Osc 2 with Osc 1, and the last two even apply to samples.

A/B Blend
Using the unique A/B mode, oscillators can blend any two wavetables with phase-synchronous precision—different from simply layering voices—opening up a dimension of intermediate waveforms. Add body to otherwise “thin” waveforms, for instance, or a touch of sizzle to a mellow timbre. Even fade between two different “modifier” versions of the same wavetable. A/B Blend can be modulated in real-time, of course.

Gigabytes of samples
Wavetables also sound great when layered with samples, and the modwave oscillators handle that with aplomb, using KORG’s proprietary anti-aliasing sample playback technology. Totaling in the gigabytes, the modwave’s sample library includes new material from KORG, Airwave, and Francis Preve, plus a bank from Plugin Guru and a selection from the Kronos and Krome libraries.

User Sample Banks let you add more Multisamples to the system. You can create your own Banks, or use Banks from third party sound developers. modwave native can load many User Sample Banks simultaneously. This is one area in which software has the edge, due to the large amount of storage and RAM available on your computer: the hardware modwave can load only one User Sample Bank at a time.

APU TrueGain is a powerful utility plugin which corrects for a fundamental challenge in audio engineering: a mix’s tonal balance changes depending on the listening level. By modeling the human ear’s frequency sensitivity at different Sound Pressure Levels (SPL), TrueGain allows you to audition and control your audio with perceptual consistency.The core of TrueGain is its ability to perform “translation checks.” After a simple one-time calibration to your monitoring setup, you can use TrueGain to simulate how your mix will sound at different loudness levels, all without changing the actual volume of your monitors or headphones. This allows you to quickly check how the bass will hold up or if the vocals will become harsh in quieter listening environments, ensuring your mix translates reliably.Alternatively, TrueGain can function as a perceptually-compensated gain control. In this mode, as you adjust the output gain, the plugin automatically applies the corresponding frequency compensation. This preserves the perceived tonal balance of your mix as it gets louder or quieter, making it an invaluable tool for your master bus, monitoring chain, or in live sound applications.

The frequency compensation is meticulously modeled on psychoacoustic research, featuring the modern ISO 226:2023 and ISO 226:2003 equal-loudness contours for state-of-the-art accuracy. For more of a vintage character, the classic Fletcher-Munson curves are also included. All filters are validated with rigorous tolerance requirements.

All gain and spectral adjustments are interpolated smoothly, with configurable smoothing times to control the responsiveness and help prevent any audible artifacts. To ensure maximum fidelity in any scenario, the plugin offers both linear phase and minimum phase filter types.

To provide detailed visual feedback, TrueGain includes a comprehensive real-time spectrum analyzer. It features configurable FFT sizes, window types, and time averaging. The frequency display can be switched between linear, logarithmic, or musical note scales, with an adjustable dB range and auto-zoom to help you focus on what matters.
