Auto-Align® Post support
The distance between lavalier microphones and the boom may vary as actors move around, shifting the phase over time. Nuendo 12 features seamless integration with Auto-Align Post 2, making time and phase alignment of continuously moving microphones much easier. Integrated as an ARA 2 plug-in extension, it is sim ply a matter of engaging Auto-Align Post and selecting a reference audio track. The process is non-destructive, with the original audio always intact and ready to be instantly recalled or reprocessed.

Even more editing improvements
Nuendo 12 offers many new detail tools and shortcuts for audio event fade editing, including the new size with fade modifier key.
You can now also use key commands to increase or decrease a range selection in all four directions, including moving the range selection itself.
There is a new option to create or modify fade in/out length while resizing events by holding a modifier key and using the Select tool.
You can now assign key commands for slip editing besides using the mouse and tool modifiers.

Dialogue Recording
As the Home of Dialogue, in Nuendo 12 we have paid special attention to the challenges of dialogue recording. Not only have we revamped the user interface of the ADR Taker, we have added new features and smart improvements, whether you are preparing for an ADR session, a language dubbing project for Netflix or using third-party applications whose scripts you want to import quickly and easily into Nuendo. These features will save you hours of time and make tasks less repetitive, radically enhancing your workflow.

Netflix’s TTAL dialogue script support
Nuendo 12 supports the import and export of TTAL files, Netflix’s proprietary script format for working on language dubbing projects. The TTAL script content is converted to record-ready ADR markers, including the dialogue text, characters and useful metadata, such as on/off screen notices, etc. Script change decisions made during the ADR production can be documented within the Nuendo marker editor and brought back to the workflow through the TTAL export function.

Connection to EdiCue
Nuendo 12 supports EdiCue v4, the award-winning ADR cueing application.Creating cues in Nuendo with the EdiCue Project Interface window allows dialogue supervisors to load character text from PDF shooting scripts and apply the required properties to enable a smooth recording session. Cue data is stored in Nuendo’s cycle markers, allowing for instant record. Alternatively, EdiCue can import cue data from EdiCue PDF cue sheets to send directly to Nuendo, ready for recording. You can also import data from Nuendo’s cycle markers direct into EdiCue and export customized cue sheets as PDFs.

ADM Authoring for Dolby Atmos®
In this window, you can configure objects and beds from existing tracks in the project. Every object needs a source track from the project, which feeds audio to it. Any audio track, group channel or even VST instruments can act as source tracks for objects. A prerequisite is that a VST MultiPanner is present on a source track. Configuring objects in the ADM Authoring for Dolby Atmos window will enable special features on the source tracks in the project: the VST MultiPanner in each source track will switch to Object Mode and the audio signal will be sent to the renderer for monitoring, no longer to the bed.

Renderer for Dolby Atmos®
Included in Nuendo is a Dolby Atmos VST renderer, that allows for real-time monitoring, downmixing and re-rendering of object-based mixes, without requiring external software or hardware.

Automated Dialog Replacement (ADR) system
Nuendo provides a fully-equipped solution for convenient recording of dialog and Foley. Using up to 32 marker tracks, every aspect of a film — such as Foley, dialog or sound design — can be spotted. Each Nuendo project marker can contain user definable attributes, such as a scene location, the time and the stage directions. Markers can be exported in CSV file format. Nuendo is also able to import EDL lists in the CMX 3600 and CSV formats. The info will show up as a marker track that includes all attributes. If necessary, marker tracks can be imported and exported between Nuendo projects, giving the sound editor or Foley recorder maximum freedom when organizing projects. For the voice recording process, the Nuendo ADR Taker System offers a dedicated panel with three different modes: rehearse, record and review, including pre- and post-record option. Also included are various filtering and sorting functions.

Field Recorder Audio Import
This powerful feature allows you to search for Field Recorder audio files matching selected events in the project by choosing a set of predefined search criteria – a process which can otherwise take weeks of manual work. A list of files with attributes or metadata similar to the selected project events will be displayed, with options to check the search result and preview the files. After confirmation, the chosen audio files will be inserted into the project and edited to match the originally selected events.

Artificial drum intelligence by Sony CSL
Backbone now comes with DrumGAN, an innovative drum generator developed by Sony Computer Science Laboratories, Inc. (Sony CSL). Powered by artificial intelligence (AI), it creates new kick drum, snare drum and cymbal samples in a very fast, intuitive way. It also analyzes samples, can replicate them and create countless variations. DrumGAN is the perfect addition to Backbone for crafting new drum sounds entirely from scratch, while staying in your favorite sample editing environment.

AI creates. You design.
The AI generates fresh kick drums, snare drums and cymbals, which can be further adjusted with all the tools that you have come to love in Backbone. Use newly-created drum samples as a starting point, you can decompose, layer, re–synthesize or create any other kind of transformation in Backbone to craft your own, unique sound.
