What’s New in Audio Hijack 3.6.0

  • Audio Hijack’s tracking of physical input and output devices has been overhauled and dramatically improved. It will now better handle issues caused by many USB audio devices. Audio Hijack will automatically track devices across restarts and between ports on your computer, so fewer adjustments are necessary.
  • The Source selector, found in the Application input block, has been updated and improved. It’s now easier to capture audio from the Finder and Text to Speech, with the new “Special Sources” section of the Source selector. Other minor interface improvements have been made as well.
  • Audio Hijack now has preliminary compatibility with MacOS 10.15 (Catalina).
  • The backend Audio Capture Engine (ACE) has been updated to 11.0.1, with preliminary MacOS 10.15 (Catalina) compatibility, as well as other fixes and improvements. ACE is now required to use Audio Hijack. If it is not currently installed, you’ll be prompted to install it at launch.
  • On MacOS 10.14 (Mojave) and higher, Audio Hijack now offers general Dark Mode support on windows throughout the app.
  • The Declick, Dehum, and Denoise plugins have been overhauled and modernized. The new versions of these blocks can now be found in the Advanced section of the block library. For more details, see the “Advanced Blocks” section of the manual.
  • Auto-splitting files based on time now has millisecond precision, so splits are much more precise.
  • When adjusting an Input or Output Device block that is in an error state because a device has disappeared, changes made will now immediately take effect, even if the session is actively running.
  • The buffer size used while recording has been increased, to prevent very rare cases where an over-stressed machine (or disk) could drop audio. If an error does still occur, it will now be logged.
  • The Application source block now better handles applications with unconventional application names.
  • An improvement has been made for session names imported from the old Audio Hijack Pro.
  • The Broadcast block has been updated to plug a memory leak, and save CPU by doing smarter time formatting.
  • Updates have been made to track titles used by the Broadcast block, to fix a bug where large image art captured by the Track Title system in the Broadcast block could cause audio drop outs, and better capture metadata by using a separate process.
  • Audio Hijack works to properly handle third-party Audio Unit plugins on Catalina. Apple now requires third-party Audio Unit plugins to be properly signed and notarized, causing many older plugins to fail to load on Catalina. The developers of these individual plugins will need to issue properly signed updates to their plugins.
  • Audio Hijack now requires MacOS 10.12 (Sierra) or higher. If you’re still on 10.11 (or lower), be sure to see our Legacy page.
  • Audio Hijack’s Help menu now includes a useful new Release Notes window, so you can see changes across all versions from right inside the app.
  • On Catalina, Audio Hijack works to replace the now-defunct iTunes with the new Music.app in all relevant places.
  • Audio Hijack’s Preferences window has been updated for consistency across all Rogue Amoeba apps.
  • A new wizard has been added to Audio Hijack for installing, updating, and removing ACE (among other things). It includes the “Quick Tour” to provide a helpful overview of the application. It will also present update notes on the first launch of a new version, and intelligently warn if uninstalling ACE will impact other applications.
  • Audio Hijack’s help manual has been improved and streamlined.
  • The look of messages displayed by Audio Hijack has been modernized.
  • The About box has been updated to provide additional version information in an easy-to-read fashion.
  • Audio Hijack now has two one-shot notices for a sub-set of older users. On first launch, users on Catalina who have active third-party Audio Units will receive one notice, while users on any OS with active Declick, Dehum, or Denoise blocks will receive another.
  • The “old-style hijacker” option has been removed from Audio Hijack’s Hidden Preferences.

X Lossless Decoder(XLD) is a tool for Mac OS X that is able to decode/convert/play various ‘lossless’ audio files. The supported audio files can be split into some tracks with cue sheet when decoding. It works on Mac OS X 10.4 and later.

XLD is Universal Binary, so it runs natively on both Intel Macs and PPC Macs.

Other formats supported by Libsndfile are also decodable. XLD uses not decoder frontend but library to decode, so no intermediate files are generated. All of the supported formats can be directly split with the cue sheet. XLD also supports so-called ’embedded’ or ‘internal’ cue sheet.

XLD supports various output formats. It can convert audio files into WAVE, AIFF, Raw PCM, Ogg Vorbis (aoTuV), MPEG-4 AAC (QuickTime/CoreAudio), MP3 (LAME), Apple Lossless, FLAC, HE-AAC (aacPlus v1/v2), Wave64, WavPack, and IETF Opus.

XLD version 20080812 and later can be used as a CD ripper. You can convert each track in your audio CD into the desired format. Also, XLD supports output a CD image with a cue sheet (wav+cue, flac+cue, etc).

  • When dragging a movie from the TV application, the dragged track was not automatically linked. Note that currently, dragged TV shows cannot be automatically linked.
  • Fixed sporadic crashes when artwork is displayed in a table. This includes any editing panel with a full Artwork element and the file list area’s Artwork column.

General Modifications/Fixes:

  • The Artwork preference named Do not Issue Errors for Invalid Artworkhas been removed. The error is now always silent. If you see artwork which is a big red dot it’s a messed up image. This change was necessitated due to changes for 10.15.

Bug Fixes:

  • The Episode ID field’s synthesize function was not working correctly.
  • The MusicBrainz wizard will now correctly import multiple Composers, Lyricists, Remixers and Conductors.
  • Yate was using non standard frames to store Movement Name, Movement Number and Movement Count. At least they weren’t the same non standard names that iTunes uses. This was irrelevant if you are using iTunes and auto-exporting the Classical Metadata. v5.0 reads both mappings and writes the more standard ones.
  • The Set as Key Column menu item in database viewers was not always working.
  • Opening database files via File>Open or Finder Open-With as opposed to dragging them in, potentially closed open unmodified files.
  • The Access Discogs and Access MusicBrainz statements’ custom table context menu access to the import settings manager was disabled.
  • Fixed a bogus Log>Validation Errors message in MPEG-4 files with video and long description fields.
  • If a number of files were selected of which only some were linked, Refresh iTunes would display errors for the files not linked.
  • The Beatport Importer could hang on a network error.
  • The Beatport Importer now silently ignores 404 errors when retrieving artwork.
  • The test used to determine if Safari is the default browser did not work on Mac OS 10.9.

The SampleTank 3 interface is divided into 3 main “environments” for layering, mixing and editing sounds and grooves. We’ve taken the main aspects of the music production workflow and separated them into 3 main functional environments: the “Play” interface, the “Mix” interface and the “Edit” interface.

SampleTank 3 Overview:

The Play interface

The PLAY page will be immediately familiar to SampleTank users: On the left is the browser where you load Multis (previously known as Combis), Instruments and Patterns. On the right is the Part Viewer where you can see the contents of each Part and adjust its most basic parameters. SampleTank 3 lets you load multiple MIDI patterns in each Part. Now you can build inspiring grooves directly within the software and play them at will. The Live tab lets you bring SampleTank 3 on stage with you easier by giving you a clean way to organize your performances by set lists and Song, letting you have your sounds ready to play instantly with its smart loading management system.

The Mix interface

The MIX page provides a traditional mixer interface with 5 effects slots for each channel. There are 21 channels in all: 16 channels for each Part, 4 returns for global “send effects” (like reverb and delay) and a master channel. This arrangement lets you get extremely creative — you can have up to 30 effects on a single instrument!

The Edit interface

The EDIT page provides full access to SampleTank 3’s powerful synthesizer engine. There you can run your samples through everything from envelopes to LFOs to filters – And speaking of filters, SampleTank 3 features 16 filter types for extreme sonic sculpting.

SampleTank 3 now supports direct integration with iRig Pads, IK’s ultra-portable MIDI groove controller. Plug in your iRig Pads (or other pad-based MIDI controller) and you can take advantage of SampleTank’s Pad interface, which lets you assign SampleTank 3’s 16 parts to the 16 pads on your controller for a seamless and tactile “out-of-the-box” music production experience.

Hide Speakers

Adjust Sync

Airfoil automatically keeps all outputs completely in sync. However, there may be rare situations where you wish to adjust this, such as when an output is connected to a receiver which adds its own latency. The new Sync sliders in the “Advanced Speaker Options” window make this possible.

Beautifully Refined Interface

Airfoil for Mac and Airfoil Satellite for Mac have both been improved, all without changing too much. The interface will still be familiar to users of older versions of Airfoil, but it also features many improvements.
There are improvements like longer volume sliders in Airfoil’s main window, as well as beautiful new graphics that are fully updated for Retina displays. Meanwhile Airfoil Satellite has been updated to include the new controls for controlling Airfoil, while retaining all that the previous “Airfoil Speakers” application offered.

ArcSyn is a synthesizer instrument plug-in based on typical analogue synthesizer architecture, i.e., a “virtual analogue” synthesizer. Unlike many virtual analogues, it doesn’t try and emulate a particular ‘real’ synthesizer, nor does it use 90% of your computer’s CPU time to emulate a filter which can be cloned on a 2″ (5 cm) square PCB with $5 worth of components ? Instead, it takes the “road less well travelled” and explores some unusual avenues of analogue (and digital) synthesis—the sort of capabilities you might find on a well-stocked modular synthesizer, including: unusual waveforms, dividers, logic functions, frequency shifters and so on. ArcSyn also introduces the concept of LFO wave sequencing, allowing extremely complex modulation patterns.

ArcSyn is laid out approximately like a MiniMoog, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to start editing programs and creating interesting sounds, although if you take the time to work out how the LFOs and modulation matrix operate, you’ll be able to create much more complex programs. There’s also a RANDOM button which you can click at any time if you want some instant (not necessarily musical!) inspiration.
