Unhappy with Spotlight because it does not find files that you know to be there? Use FAF to find every file on your disks, including those usually hidden. By file name, date, size (not by content, though!)

  • Recover a file whose name you partially remember?

  • Uninstall software that leaves files in hidden places where Spotlight doesn’t look?

Find Any File (FAF) is the perfect tool for these tasks.

You can even search on disks that are not indexed by Spotlight, including server volumes.

Find Any File can find files that Spotlight doesn’t, e.g. those inside bundles and packages, and inside system folders that are usually excluded from Spotlight search.

Contrary to Spotlight, it does not use a database but instead searches the data on disk directly. This lets you search for file properties such as name, creation and modification dates, file size, even plain text inside files.

Another useful feature is its hierarchical results view (see screenshots). It lets you view the found items within their respective folders, making it often much easier to browse through 100s of found items.

Finally, it is fast. Not as fast as Spotlight, but it usually only takes a few seconds to locate all searched items on a disk.

File Juicer is a drag-and-drop can opener and data archaeologist. Its specialty is to find and extract images, video, audio, or text from files which are hard to open in other ways. In computer forensics this is called carving.

It finds and extracts: JPEG, JP2, PNG, GIF, PDF, BMP, WMF, EMF, PICT, TIFF, Flash, ZIP, HTML, WAV, AVI, MOV, MP4, MPG, MP3, AIFF, AU, WMV, or text from files which contain data in those formats.

Lossless extraction… File Juicer does’t convert the images/sounds/videos it finds, but saves them unchanged in their original format if possible. (See the manual for details.) This is useful:

  • if you want to extract the images/sounds/videos from a PDF or Word document;
  • if you have old files you can no longer open with current applications;
  • if you receive emails with attachments you can not open;
  • if you have corrupt files or databases;
  • if you have damaged or accidentally erased flash cards for your digital camera;
  • if you receive “self extracting” EXE files designed for Windows;
  • or if this is just faster than copying and pasting from the file.

  • Tabs in File Cabinet Pro’s new Tab Bar support springloading; you can drag files over a tab to select one.

Overview:
File Juicer is a drag-and-drop can opener and data archaeologist. Its specialty is to find and extract images, video, audio, or text from files which are hard to open in other ways. In computer forensics this is called carving.

It finds and extracts: JPEG, JP2, PNG, GIF, PDF, BMP, WMF, EMF, PICT, TIFF, Flash, ZIP, HTML, WAV, AVI, MOV, MP4, MPG, MP3, AIFF, AU, WMV, or text from files which contain data in those formats. 

Lossless extraction... File Juicer does't convert the images/sounds/videos it finds, but saves them unchanged in their original format if possible. (See the manual for details.) This is useful: 
 
・if you want to extract the images/sounds/videos from a PDF or Word document; 
・if you have old files you can no longer open with current applications; 
・if you receive emails with attachments you can not open;

Description

How to do info.. 

Format Your USB Flash Drive:
1. Insert the USB flash drive into your Mac's USB port.
2. Launch Disk Utility, located at /Applications/Utilities/.
3. In the list of drives attached to your Mac, select the USB flash drive device. In my case, it's called “16 GB TDK Stick”.
4. Click on “Erase”
5. Name the formatted usb drive “Untitled”
6. Select Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) from the Format dropdown menu.
7. For Scheme choose “Guid Partition Map”
6. And click “Erase”


Now the USB flash drive is prepared you can Restore "Install macOS Sierra.dmg” to your USB flash drive.

1. Open Disk Utility
2. In the menu left of the “Disk Utility” window select the USB Drive “Untitled”.
3. In the top menu bar from “Disk Utility”  click “Edit” / “Restore”
4.Click on “Image” and go to the DMG File with macOS Sierra named “Install macOS Sierra.dmg” and click “Open”
5. Now click “Restore” 

(To install macOS Sierra restart your Mac with “alt” hold  and select your USB flash drive)

Done..

Known problem:
image need to be scanned before restore?
Unmount the dmg file named “Install macOS Sierra.dmg” (if it is mounted :)
Go to the top menu of “Disk Utility” window and select “images” and then “Scan image for restore”
Go to the “Install macOS Sierra.dmg” and click open.
Now you are able to restore the dmg-file to your usb drive.
