Scherlokk is a practical and user-friendly Mac OS X utility that enables you to find songs, pictures, videos, documents and applications in a matter of seconds.

Intuitive interface

In order to find a file you just have to select the file type, set the location path along with the file name and initiate the search process. All matching results are displayed at the bottom of the window from where you can further refine your search using various keywords.

The top toolbar allows you to change the color theme of Scherlokk and specify the type of file you need to find. Hence, you can choose between Music, Pictures, Movies, Documents and Binary or enable Scherlokk to look for all available file types.

User-definable search criteria

The Search criteria panel helps you set the location path, include or exclude subfolders, type in the file name and file content. Additionally, you can search in package contents, between invisible or hidden items, search for folders and more.

What is more, you can search for files created, modified or accessed between certain dates and with a specific size. If the results list is too long, you can use the built-in search form to further filter the displayed items.

Simple file preview and extensive sorting options

Although Scherlokk does not feature a contextual menu you can view the selected file in Finder, open the Info window, have a Quick Look and even open the file with just a couple of mouse clicks. You can even sort the results list based on the file name, size, kind and modification date.

Highly customizable interface

As mentioned earlier, you can personalize Scherlokk’s main window and choose between blue, gray, orange, green and pink as the background color. On top of that, Scherlokk is capable to automatically save your search criteria every time you close the app.

Studio One

Abbey Road Studios’ Studio One is one of the largest and most beautiful sounding orchestral studios in the world. The new Retime SOP node is a powerful tool for stretching out or slowing down simulated data such as fluid sims, RBD sims and even volumes with effective interpolation and blend options for creating clean and entirely realistic results.

Interactive modeling includes a new PolyDraw shelf tool which lets you use our interactive “Topo Build” tools anywhere in your scene, without reference geometry. Improvements to snapping and alignment including fast construction plane alignment and positioning; rotation snapping; view and construction plane memories; and new geometry alignment tools.

Character animation and rigging have been improved with a newly designed timeline that supports a more animator-friendly keyframe workflow and a facial auto-rig for a complete top-to-bottom auto-rigging solution.

Houdini Engine is now more versatile with a brand new 3DS Max plug-in, a 2.0 Unity plug-in and important enhancements to the Maya and UE4 plug-ins.

GLTF Import and Export brings the “JPEG of 3D” to Houdini to provide an efficient, interoperable asset delivery format that compresses the size of 3D scenes and minimizes runtime processing.

Daylight is designed as a compact yet powerful grading decision tool to help DoPs and directors establish looks and visualise what they have shot, on set or on location, as well as meeting all of the sophisticated deliverables requirements—in one application.

Full Baselight creativity

Grades can of course be limited to CDL values or exported as 3D LUTs for standard cross-platform workflows, but you don’t need to be constrained by the lowest common denominator. All shots can have full sophisticated Baselight looks—authored and applied using the same compact grading interface familiar to users of Baselight Editions for Avid, FCP and NUKE.

Deploy with ease

Daylight is available for purchase or quarterly rental, and the freelance licence option allows the licence to be moved from machine to machine using a simple, web-based authentication scheme.

The software will run on any Mac system equipped with OSX 10.9 or above. Using the same philosophy as Baselight Editions, Daylight uses whatever graphics card is installed without the need for special, CUDA-capable variants.

Extensive metadata support

Daylight provides comprehensive end-to-end handling of metadata. The system reads all the data it can from the headers of your camera and audio files and displays relevant metadata fields in the Sequence Browser and the Shots View—and you can also choose to display information on thumbnails in the Scene and Galleries.

Custom reporting

Daylight’s extensive metadata handling carries right on over into a sophisticated report generator that includes custom columns, colour accurate thumbnail images and cover pages. This means that you can produce a consistent, professional report at the end of every workday.

Transcoding in post

Daylight makes use of over 10 years of accumulated Baselight development to provide comprehensive support for all camera and deliverable formats—including audio and retiming capability. Support for sophisticated rescaling, filtering, masking and burn-in operations, alongside Truelight Colour Spaces for accurate colour transforms, means that all of your deliverable requirements can be met by one application.

Comprehensive codec support

Baselight is well regarded for supporting all common RAW camera formats and delivery codecs natively as soon as they are released. This is carried across to Daylight, along with user-defined formats and a sophisticated format mapping system that allows resolution, aspect ratio, frame rate and colour space to be freely mixed within a project.

Audio sync & playback

Audio can easily be synced with your camera footage—either automatically using timecode, or semi-automatically using a clap-detector, which pinpoints the exact time in the audio file that the clapper closes. Sound files that span multiple camera takes are easily handled and waveforms help you to manually adjust sound sync on a per-shot basis.

Working with Baselight or Baselight Editions in post?

Of course, the sophistication of the Daylight render queue is welcome when you have to deliver graded files; however, the fastest renderer is the one that never runs. Instead of images, it delivers grading metadata. If you are working with a post-production facility equipped with Baselight or Baselight Editions, the full grade from Daylight can be encapsulated in a completely portable, cross-platform BLG file. No amount of additional GPUs or CPUs can be as fast or as flexible as this workflow.

Professional panel support

Daylight supports for Tangent Wave and Element panels, as well as Avid Artist Color and Transport devices. However, just because you’re grading dailies and don’t have the space, it doesn’t mean you can’t have a purpose-designed control surface. Our Slate panel is an ideal size for the near-set environment.

Render Queue with multiple deliverables

No need to wait for Daylight to finish rendering before you can start the next operation. You can easily pause, re-order and resubmit tasks to the Render Queue enabling you to work more efficiently. You can even optimise the process by producing several deliverables simultaneously from the one scene; for example, producing QuickTime movies at the same time as rendered DPX files.

Chroma Mask is THE software for masking and cropping using Chroma Key. It can automatically mask and crop the subject already while shooting and display the cropped subject in front of a new background.

You can save color corrections along with a background as a “theme” so spontaneous motto-shoots are always possible. Besides using the popular green and blue background for masking Chroma Key also lets you key using the red channel. This is usually avoided in people photography since skin tones are rich in reds but it can be a great solution for shooting products that feature a lot of blue or green.

Chroma Keys’ advantages over masking with backlight

  • The image containing the subject is also the image used for the cut out mask using the color channel. A fast moving subject or blowing hair presents no problem.
  • By using a colored infinity cove it is very easy to mask subjects from top to bottom.
  • Shadows cast by the subject can be transferred to the new background by using a lighter compression of the tone values.

Chroma Keys’ disadvantages compared to masking with backlight

  • Extremely fine details like fur or hair can be masked better using backlight photography.
  • A backlit image usually has a better contrast than a single color channel and therefore allows for softer transitions at the edges or when using semitransparent materials.

Mask Integrator masks and crops subjects automatically during a photo shot. Two shots will be necessary for every subject: the regularly lit subject and a backlight version of it.

The following photographic setups have been useful for switching between lighting situations in the past:

When it comes to reverb, it’s all about the sound quality. Verberate is an algorithmic reverb plug-in that simulates real acoustical surroundings with exceptional realism. The first Verberate version already raised the bar. Version 2 introduces the Vivid Hall algorithm that adds time variance to avoid the stiffness that plagues convolution based reverbs while preserving the natural high density reverb tails of Verberate 1.

Real acoustical surroundings will have slight variations due to air currents, moving performers or movements in the audience. While these variations may seem subtle, the effect towards the end of the reverb tail is significant, since the sound is reflected a large number of times before the reverb tail fades out. The new Vivid Hall algorithm models these random variations without artifacts like chorus effects or pitch changes, and is therefore capable of simulating reverberation of real halls with a higher degree of realism.

VariSaturator is an audio effect AU and VST plugin designed to apply saturation effects to audio material. VariSaturator can be used both to boost the loudness of the audio tracks without increasing their peak levels proportionally, and to apply subtle harmonic coloration that makes tracks sound more pronounced and polished.

VariSaturator features two saturation modules which are applied in sequence, in two-band mode each. The valve saturation module applies asymmetric valve processing that closely resembles sound of a high-quality valve amplifier cascade. Another saturation module VariSaturator features is a digital “waveshaping” saturator with feedback topology. This module applies smooth two-band saturation which can amplify signal level and apply desirable harmonic coloration.
