Little Snitch is a trustworthy and handy macOS application capable to monitor your network traffic and block various connections in order to protect your privacy.

Filter connections and monitor your network traffic with ease
The Little Snitch Network Monitor utility features a well-designed interface and provide easy-to-read animated and informative diagrams created based on real time traffic information. Hence, you can analyze bandwidth, connectivity status, traffic totals, detailed traffic history for the past hour and more.

You can filter the displayed data based on the process name or server port and group them according to your needs. Little Snitch helps you view traffic peaks, check the average bandwidth and save snapshots for further analysis.

Enable the Silent Mode for a distraction free working environment
The network traffic can be easily captured in the PCAP format while the network activity is displayed along various system events in order to provide a context.

There is also a Silent Mode that allows you to get on with your work without being interrupted by any network related notifications. However, you can review the Silent Mode Log to create rules for connection attempts that took place during this period.

On top of that, you can group your rules in different profiles and enable them only when a particular profile is active. Thanks to Little Snitch’s status bar menu, you can choose the desired profile with just a few mouse clicks.

Enjoy the versatility of the Automatic Profile Switching function
At the same time, you can take advantage of the Automatic Profile Switching feature and associate different networks with certain profiles. Once the network is detected, the associate profile is automatically enabled. For example, you can use a set of filters when you are at home and more restrictive ruleset when you access the web from an Internet Cafe.

What is more, Little Snitch features a flexible temporary rule system that offers a number of options for rules that are effective only for a limited period of time. Furthermore, Little Snitch automatically analyzes your ruleset and indicates the presence of overlapping, redundant or invalid rules that you might want to delete.

With Micro Snitch (was NOYB) there’s no doubt whether an application records audio through your Mac’s built-in microphone or if the camera captures video. This ultra-light menu-bar application operates inconspicuously in the background. It monitors and reports any microphone and camera activity to help you figure out if someone’s spying on you.

Fair enough, you might see the camera’s indicator light, but what if you are away from your computer? And for the microphone, there is no activity indication at all, so you won’t notice if the microphone is turned on even if you’re sitting right in front of your Mac.

With Micro Snitch you always know whether some app is currently using your microphone and its logging facilities allow you to reveal any suspicious activities later on.

  • Menu Bar Icon — Any current microphone or camera activity is displayed in the menu bar. The menu also shows a list of connected audio/video devices.
  • Overlay — An on-screen overlay is shown while the microphone or camera is turned on to make sure you won’t miss it even if the menu bar isn’t currently visible.
  • Logging — Never miss any microphone or camera activity, even in your absence. Every status change is logged to a file, so you can review it later to find suspicious activities.

Compatibility: macOS 10.14.6 or later

Little Snitch 5.5

As soon as you’re connected to the Internet, applications can potentially send whatever they want to wherever they want. Most often they do this to your benefit. But sometimes, like in case of tracking software, trojans or other malware, they don’t. But you don’t notice anything, because all of this happens invisibly under the hood. Little Snitch makes these Internet connections visible and puts you back in control!

Alert Mode
Whenever an app attempts to connect to a server on the Internet, Little Snitch shows a connection alert, allowing you to decide whether to allow or deny the connection. No data is transmitted without your consent. Your decision will be remembered and applied automatically in the future.

Silent Mode
If you are new to Little Snitch, you may get overwhelmed by the vast amount of notifications from applications wanting to connect to the Internet. The all-new Silent Mode was re-built from the ground up to make dealing with them a breeze. It lets you silence all notifications for a while, and make all your decisions later, conveniently with just a few clicks, in one go.

A world of network connections
Network Monitor is your window to the world of network connections. View your Mac’s network activity from three perspectives – a list of apps and servers, a web of connections across the globe and a one hour history of data traffic.

Server, where are you?
Ever wanted to know, where in the world your data is sent to? Network Monitor shows the location of all servers your Mac is connected to on an interactive world map. Animated connection lines provide a clear overview of currently transferred data and blocked connections.

What’s new in Little Snitch 5
A beautiful new design, improved traffic statistics, a brand new command line interface, simplified Drag and Drop installation and the seamless compatibility with the latest versions of macOS are setting Little Snitch 5 apart from its predecessor.

Redesigned Filter Engine and User Interface
The main focus in the development of Little Snitch 5 was on the integration of the new network filter technologies introduced by Apple in macOS Big Sur. The underlying filter engine was re-built from ground up to replace the previous kernel extension based approach which is no longer supported by macOS.

Furthermore, Little Snitch was adapted to the new, elegant design language of the operating system with great attention to detail. New design features, like a prominent search bar and a newly structured sidebar go beyond aesthetic choice and add a level of simplicity and intuitiveness to the user experience.

Drag and Drop Installation
The simplified Drag and Drop installation has been eagerly awaited by many users. Now it’s no longer necessary to restart the computer in order to install or update Little Snitch.

Improved Traffic Monitoring
Little Snitch now captures connection information efficiently in the background. It no longer requires the Network Monitor application to be running in order to collect this information, resulting in reduced memory and CPU consumption.

The improved monitoring system is now capable of holding traffic information from up to a whole year, instead of only the last hour as before.

Command Line Interface
System administrators now have the ability to configure a variety of program settings via a command line interface, making Little Snitch scriptable for the very first time.

This interface now also offers the possibility to report network connections in a log-based format for detailed and versatile traffic analysis.

Compatibility: macOS 11

Protect your privacy
Little Snitch is a trustworthy and handy Mac OS X application capable to monitor your network traffic and block various connections in order to protect your privacy.

Thanks to Little Snitch'status bar menu, you can choose the desired profile with just a few mouse clicks.

Little Snitch... A firewall protects your computer against unwanted guests from the Internet. But who protects your private data from being sent out? Little Snitch does!
As soon as you're connected to the Internet, applications can potentially send whatever information they want to wherever they want.

Sometimes they do this for good reason, on your explicit request. But often they don't. Little Snitch allows you to intercept these unwanted connection attempts, and lets you decide how to proceed.

Little Snitch informs you whenever a program attempts to establish an outgoing Internet connection. You can then choose to allow or deny this connection, or define a rule how to handle similar, future connection attempts. This reliably prevents private data from being sent out without your knowledge. Little Snitch runs inconspicuously in the background and it can also detect network related activity of viruses, trojans and other malware.

How to get it running:

A possible solution got from a third part site. I heard it should actually works for 3.5.3!!!

If you already have an older version of Little Snitch installed in your mac do these steps first:
===================================================

A) uninstall your current Little Snitch using the uninstall feature in Little Snitch installer
folder .
B) After the re-boot, make sure these files are deleted.
The uninstaller does not remove them all so delete manually:

From the Home Folder:

/Library/Application Support/Little Snitch/

/Library/Preferences/at.obdev.LittleSnitchConfiguration.plist

/Library/Preferences/at.obdev.LittleSnitchNetworkMonitor.plist

/Library/Preferences/at.obdev.LittleSnitchInstaller.plist
