Audio Damage has announced the immediate availability of its latest plugin for Windows, Mac and iOS. An architecturally unique and sonically characterful looping toolkit for producers and live performers, inspired by both modern looper pedals and vintage tape-based setups, Enso combines elegant and intuitive UI design with a deep but accessible feature set and stellar sound quality.

Enso’s operation will be immediately familiar to users of hardware looper pedals or plugins such as Ableton Live’s bundled Looper. Start playback of the host DAW, hit Enso’s record button and capture your instrumental performance into a loop of whatever length you like, up to ten minutes (five minutes on iOS). Then, without stopping playback, overdub further passes to create layered grooves, complex harmonic textures, or dense, evolving soundscapes.

Beyond those basics, though, Enso takes software looping into new territory. Two Overdub modes configure the plugin for conventional looper pedal behavior or Frippertronics-style ‘dual tape deck’ manoeuvres, affecting the handling of the Feedback parameter for an endless range of layering possibilities; and up to four Sectors can be effortlessly defined, each with its own start and end points, for on-the-fly rearrangement of the loop.

With Enso, time and motion become truly fluid, as speed and direction are handled completely independently for playback and recording, the ‘through-zero’ bipolar Speed controls smoothly transitioning from forwards to backwards, and vice versa, in real time. Want to record forwards at half speed, while simultaneously playing the buffered loop in reverse at 1.25x? Of course you do…

Onboard tape-style saturation, filtering and chorus effects bring dirt, frequency-shaping and stereo thickening to the party; and a comprehensive MIDI assignment system makes it a snap to set your MIDI pedal or button controller up for operation of all Enso’s buttons and switches. With its animated play and record heads, meanwhile, the looping waveform display provides a clean, clear visual representation of the potentially mind-bending temporal acrobatics taking place, letting you get a handle on exactly what’s happening at a glance.

The Yamaha CFX Concert Grand Piano

The CFX piano marks a significant milestone in Yamaha’s celebrated 108-year history as an acclaimed world-class piano maker. In 1991, Yamaha began its most ambitious piano project ever: to create a new generation of grand piano for concert, conservatoire and studio performance.

The result was the CFX Concert Grand Piano, a revolutionary new instrument that embodies the concept of beauty and power. The rich palette of tonal colors and musical voices the piano can produce characterizes its beauty. The power comes from the CFX’s unprecedented tonal projection. The development and evaluation phase of this remarkable instrument took almost 20 years. During this time, a 40-strong team of the world’s most talented piano designers, technicians, craftsmen and, of course, pianists deconstructed the concert grand and began rebuilding it from the ground up. Every aspect of traditional piano design was questioned, evaluated, improved and relentlessly tested. Once the design was nearing completion, multiple prototypes endured thousands of hours of secret testing at concert halls across the globe.

Each CFX is entirely hand-built by a small team comprising some of the world’s most experienced and skilled craftsmen. All materials are meticulously selected and refined to ensure unprecedented music performance in the most demanding of situations. Abbey Road Studios

Abbey Road Studios is the most famous recording studios in the world and a global music icon. Home to countless landmark recordings and pioneering advances in recording technology, the legendary studio complex has a phenomenal history spanning over 80 years, encompassing celebrated work by many of the world’s most famous recording artists including The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Kanye West, Elton John, Oasis, Elbow, Lady Gaga and Adele. Composers and musicians from around the world turn to Abbey Road Studios when they desire the very best.

Studio One

Abbey Road Studios’ Studio One is one of the largest and most beautiful sounding orchestral studios in the world. The space can easily accommodate a 110 piece orchestra and 100 piece choir simultaneously. Studio One’s acoustics are as famous as its location, offering a supremely warm and clear sound with a reverb time of 2.3 seconds. This makes it perfect for numerous types of recording, from solo piano to large orchestras.

Studio One is Abbey Road’s largest recording space and has enjoyed a remarkable history. Architects Wallis Gilbert and Partners decorated the original walls of Studio One in their distinctive art-deco style, which gave the room a darker sound than its current, superior-sounding incarnation. In 1931 the impressive room hosted Abbey Road’s inaugural recording session with Sir Edward Elgar, and has since hosted historic sessions by the London Symphony Orchestra and luminaries ranging from Yehudi Menuhin, Pablo Casales, Bela Bartok and Jascha Heifetz to Glenn Miller and Fats Waller. In 1967, Studio One played host to The Beatles’ famous performance of ‘All You Need Is Love,’ which was captured as part of the first ever live, international satellite TV broadcast.

When Studio One opened, it was used primarily by EMI’s prestigious His Master’s Voice (HMV) label and it continues to host classical recordings to this day. It is also one of the world’s premiere locations for movie scoring: the long list of blockbuster scores recorded in Studio One includes Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars, the Lord of The Rings Trilogy and Gravity.

Presets

Garritan has worked closely with Abbey Road Studios to develop presets that are both functionally useful and inspiring to play. Research included artists and genres as well as notable recordings, cinematic settings and live performance examples to make the CFX as flexible and versatile a musical instrument as possible.

VariSaturator is an audio effect AU and VST plugin designed to apply saturation effects to audio material. VariSaturator can be used both to boost the loudness of the audio tracks without increasing their peak levels proportionally, and to apply subtle harmonic coloration that makes tracks sound more pronounced and polished.

VariSaturator features two saturation modules which are applied in sequence, in two-band mode each. The valve saturation module applies asymmetric valve processing that closely resembles sound of a high-quality valve amplifier cascade. Another saturation module VariSaturator features is a digital “waveshaping” saturator with feedback topology. This module applies smooth two-band saturation which can amplify signal level and apply desirable harmonic coloration.
