Not all applications are developed to run on different operating systems and, as a result, if you need to run Windows programs on your Mac, for example, you have to use an emulator. Parallels Desktop is and easy to install application that offers you the possibility to run different operating systems on your Mac.

Moreover, Parallels Desktop comes with its own installer which makes the entire process very straightforward. When you launch the application for the first time you must input the credentials of your Parallels account or create a new one. This step is not optional: you need an account to request a trial key or to receive updates.

Furthermore, Parallels Desktop can be used to install Windows or another OS from a DVD or an image file, or to migrate Windows from a PC. Parallels Desktop provides support for a plethora of operating systems, such as Windows (going from Windows 3.11 to Windows 8), MS-DOS, RED Hat Enterprise, Fedora, CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, Suse Linux Enterprise, Mandriva, Solaris, Chrome OS, Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard Server or Android.

In addition, you can find a complete list of supported 32-bit and 64-bit guest operating systems on Parallels Desktop's homepage. Workaround:Open the System Preferences on macOS 10.12 operating system, click the Dock icon. Choose "Manually" on the dropdown list of "Prefer tabs when opening documents".   ・On macOS 10.12 host operating system, the tab bar on the virtual machine window becomes blank when grabbing mouse into the virtual machine - On macOS 10.12 host operating system, if you grab the mouse into a running virtual machine when there is no tools service running inside the guest OS, the tab bar shown on the virtual machine window becomes blank, and the Fusion menu Window > Merge All Windows is disabled for the virtual machine. This problem is observed if the virtual machine does not have VMware Tools installed or it has VMware Tools installed but the Tools services are not launched yet.   Workaround:Wait until VMware Tools services are launched inside the virtual machine before grabbing the mouse into it. When the tab bar becomes blank, closing and re-opening the virtual machine window can make it show up correctly again.   ・VMs on the same NAT network and on the same host cannot communicate through an IPv6 address - When you set up a customized NAT network with IPv6 enabled and connect two VMs to that NAT network, the VMs cannot communicate with each other by using the IPv6 address. The VMs reside on the same host.   Workaround:None   ・The built-in FaceTime HD camera stops working after Fusion launches on macOS 10.12 running on MacBookPro10.1 - On macOS 10.12, the built-in FaceTime HD camera stops working after Fusion launches. You can observe the memory usage by looking at the Memory Used value on the Memory tab of the Activity Monitor.  ・Enabling port forwarding breaks NAT - When you enable port forwarding, network address translation (NAT) breaks.   ・Installing an automatic update unexpectedly suspends remote virtual machines - In VMware Fusion, after you connect to a remote virtual machine stored on either an ESXi server or a Workstation Server instance, as Fusion updates, the automatic update suspends or shuts down the running remote virtual machine, in addition to the running virtual machines that are stored on the local disk.   ・Connecting specific USB devices to a virtual machine through a USB 3.0 controller causes issues - In VMware Fusion 8.1, the following situations occur when you connect the specified USB devices to a virtual machine through a USB 3.0 controller:      ・USB 3.0 scanner - this type of device does not function inside a virtual machine.   ・USB 3.0 flash drive - you cannot format this type of device inside a virtual machine. You cannot use shared folders in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 virtual machine:  - After enabling and adding a shared folder to a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 virtual machine, none of the added shared folders are available in the /mnt/hgfs directory in the virtual machine.    After users execute Active FTP in the guest operating system, the vmnat.exe process continues to use a TCP port of the host:  - The vmnat.exe process consumes a new TCP port on the host when users execute Active FTP on the guest. The process does not release the TCP port even when the FTP session is closed.
